Hey American Vinyl Fan-People! I'm not much of a veteran here on SB, but I've been doing the resin thing for a couple of years, and now I'm making the step to vinyl!!! I'm moving to Japan this Summer (my wife is teaching English for JET - we'll be there for at least a year), and I JUST sent a finished clay sculpt to Velocitron in Tokyo - and will be releasing this guy in pretty pretty Japanese sofubi form in Late August/September - officially at Super Fest in Tokyo!

He's the 'Ugly Unicorn' (アグリー ユニコーン) - so yeah, he's, well, 'ugly'. The sculpt went in the mail on Monday. I'm told we'll see test pulls about 6 weeks after his arrival in Tokyo (being recast in wax, smoothed a bit, molded in metal, cast in vinyl). So, without further ado - here are pictures!

He's about 5 inches tall, he'll articulate at the waist, and I'm aiming for opaque red and yellow for the first release. I'm selling at Superfest and Design Festa in Tokyo this fall, so, the initial on-line release will be a super small run. Backstorywise - he's an enormous cupcake eating 'Booska-like' creature. He destroys things because they get in his way and he's big...or because he's hungry There's more backstory to this guy, but I'll save it for now. Hope you guys dig the sculpt!

Just a quick update on this guy!

Velocitron has just submerged the sculpt in the first layer of silicone, and wax is on it's way in a little over a week! I'll have pics up as soon as I get them - in his new waxy form - a dream come true

Thanks Rich and Magakaben! Well, GID is in the cards for sure, but not right off the bat... I'll be starting with yellow and red - unpaints as the pre-release sales, and some painted versions to follow. Honestly, I also cannot wait to see my guys standing around my Greasebat! Photo op!

I'll be at some of the fall shows in Tokyo - getting my feet wet for my stay over there - and we'll see what other color requests I get

I got the WAX Prototype pics from Ricky (Velocitron)!!!!! PSYCHED! AND I'm at the airport on my way to Tokyo right now - another reason to be excited

Now he's at the 'factory' - the mold /will be made and vinyl will be pulled before the end of the month! I'll have a pre-order up soon for the only blanks of the first two colors - bright yellow and red vinyl - header carded! Some small runs to start.

Hope some of you guys dig this figure - I'm super excited!

Just got word that the foot stamps are happening, and the figure is officially in the hands of the factory!

Hey Guys!

Pre-sale goes live on Tuesday 8/16 @ 8pm EST (5pm West Coast or Wednesday 8/17 @ 9am Japan Time) in zee ol' shoppe (link in signature).

A little more back-story: The UGLY UNICORN (アグリー ユニコーン ) is a mysterious creature believed to come from a planet where cake and frosting are the main source of sustenance. Via some semingly random circumstances (a wormhole perhaps?) he has come to earth and now seeks the only thing that can keep him alive - CAKE! Due to his absurdly rediculous size (measured by scientist to be somewhere around 75' - depending on his food intake at time of measurement), UGLY tends to make a mess of his search for food; destroying things and leaving rubble in his wake.

Each figure measures slightly over 5 inches in height and will come bagged and header carded. I'm releasing the first two colors (unpainted) at the same time. Red and Yellow! The color swatches in the pics below should match the Pantone requests I put in.

I have been told to expect the casts by the end of August.

Vinyl Test Shot is Up! I just got these pictures from Ricky - psyched! Should be seeing the red and yellow sometime late next week.









Pre-orders for blank (unpainted) red and yellow casts will be up until Friday 9/9 (Fiday night here in Japan). The casts should come in around then!

OK folks! Only 2 more days to order a blank UGLY before the pre-order closes! A few blanks will head with me to SUPERFESTIVAL and a couple will go to NYCC (most likely at the Lulubell booth), but there are couple left for pre-order in the shop still!

And I also realized that I had forgotten to get the header art up... Here it is!

I was wobbling back and forth whether to get two reds or one of each but I pulled the trigger on one each. Can't wait!

Got the first shipment from Tokyo Yesterday! Super Exciting. TOday was 7 hours of painting - the first 2 mini-runs for Superfestival on the 25th.
