 my problem with OriginalFake
I haven't read the other message boards, but someone said there was complaining on another board. I don't blame them at all if there is.
In the first picture the guy on the left was the first person in line. He said he drove and took a cab to get there early. All which would have cost him a pretty penny in Japan. You can see in the second picture the line got huge. They handed out tickets around 9:30 or 10:00 only problem is they must have handed out way more tickets than they had figures because the guy that was number one in line didn't get one
That is total bullshit in my opinion. If anything they should have handed out 100 or 200 tickets to the first 100 or 200 people and the rest would be out of luck not some random drawling that gives the guy that show up at 10:00 the same chance as the guy that camped out for one.
I just don't understand that one

If they are making it a totally randome draw, then it would indicate they are trying to discourage early line-ups. Maybe issues with neighboring stores, or local security?
What would really suck is if one time its random, and the next its based on line position.

Yeah, it's total BS that the first guy in line didn't get a figure. I'm amazed at how often stores screw up releases in this hobby.

Supposedly this is the first guy's story:
--------
Please read about my day at Original Fake. You will be baffled and amused.
So I wake up at 3AM, drive in to Tokyo and get to OriginalFake at 4:56AM. I was the FIRST person there. Person #2 showed up about 10 minutes later. So I was psyched. I have disected I & II and I basically did whatever was humanly possible today to assure I would get number III to complete the collection. Right? You think? But wait, the story continues.
By 9:30, the cue was longer than when disected II was released. At 10 o'clock they started handing out the tickets with the times to come back to pick up your KAWS dissected. I was slated to pick up my companion at 1420 (10 minutes earlier than last time!). So my time comes and I begin to walk down the stairs to the entrance of Original Fake. The people for the time slot looked a little bewildered...
SOLD OUT!!!
Yes, I was the first person in the cue this morning and I did not come home with a companion. The manager told me they sold out. As I was in a state of shock, disbelief, and denial, I told him "I was the first person here at 5 AM". The response was "Gomen-nasai, gomen-nasai [sorry, sorry]. They will be sold on Kawsone.com".
Is something wrong here? I am pretty tired since I have been up for a while now, but something just doesn't seem right. Is this an equitable system?

I would say I just don't believe it if I didn't actually see it with my own eyes.
That is what they did and exactly how it happened.
I don't know the best way to stop flipping and that is why they said they are doing this, but it was more than obvious this guy was going for self.
Even if he wasn't he put the time in to bring it to others. He actually paid a lot to get over there.
It is just wrong.
I don't like seeing 20 homeless men in line, but if they only sold to die-hard collectors people outside of Japan would never get one. I just don't know they best way to do things, but what happened to that guy was wrong

i read that same story. thats pretty messed up. that line is insane and i agree i'd much rather pay a flipped price or roll the dice on kawsone.

Or he could just wait the 3-6 months until someone who has it gets tired of it or runs into financial trouble and pick it up for a more reasonable price.

waiting for someone to get tired of him is great and would have been cool if that dude stayed at home on Saturday, but he didn't. He paid a good amount to be first in line and he got screwed.
I just don't think that's fair.
I guess it's a tough one to crack, but you still gotta feel bad for that guy.

It seems that they are trying to get rid of the yakuza flippers this way.

I agree, it definitely wasn't fair. However, I wonder if Original Fake knows about it. kidclam wrote: It seems that they are trying to get rid of the yakuza flippers this way. How, exactly?

Unless I am not understanding how it works fully, it's not about who lines up first but about who gets the random draw. With also ID checks it seems like this is what they are OF are trying to resolve?

That line is just nuts! If I was that guy who was first I wouldn't have left empty handed, I would have ripped the door off and left with that.

Didn't work worth a damn then, if one looks at how many Dissecteds have been listed and sold on YJA the past few days

if this guy makes an effort to holler at kaws about this before they drop on kaws-one i'm sure something could be worked out.

Yes, that's me in the pic -- the first guy there. I actually managed to order and receive one via an authorized reseller already. I still can't believe what went down that day.

The person who manages the Original Fake store knows about what happened.
