This is sickening. It's only gonna get uglier until the only people buying will be speculators as those of us that want to buy for the fun will be priced out of the market. I am really really bummed right now.

It's getting to the point where I don't even bother to look at auction sites any more. Even YahooJP has turned from a source of reasonably priced older SB figures to a flippers market. Almost all of the SB on there right now is priced about $75 to $100 more than I would be willing to spend on it. I’m not paying $280 for an Atmos Obake, that’s bullshit.

I think for me when Bemons started going for $400 it was the start of things to spiraling out of control.

Honestly, the only way for prices stabilize would depend on production runs. The vinyl/new kaiju scene is getting more exposure and attracting new collectors but they're still limited around 100pcs for each release. Lets face it, prices will only get crazy unless there is an increase in production.

However, the widely accepted trend seems to be making everything more limited or RARE. It sucks. Good for business, bad for consumer. Everyone's being sucked into this like moths to florescent lights and we all know how hard it is to look away! It's getting to a point where buying these figures are equivalent to purchasing a designer bag. So what's next? LV trade for a Bemon?

it's not really all that bad. There were four or five sets of the gargamel figures on yja for 12-17,000 yen. Remember this is a Hong Kong seller so it might not even be real sale. You have to assume the price on this set will collapse from this price in the coming weeks.

There are a lot more toys being released every week compared to 6 months ago and most of them are great. It is easy to find enough stuff a retail to max out your budget. Here are a couple examples from WF:

This was still for sale on KT long after most of the other festival releases were gone.

I love this figure and not one word has been said about it on Skullbrain.

Additionally, the price on most older SB stuff has actually been declining over the last year. It seems like a lot of the newest kaiju fans aren't that concerned with finding older releases. I assume gargmel and Rxh will follow the same trend in the future.

I'm with you. I agree that there is plenty of new and awesome Kaiju to be had. Personally I'm trying to tie up my SB collection before moving on and some of the choicest Secret Base fruit might as well be on the moon for me at this point.

I have a hand painted Bemon, it's beautiful to be sure but there is no way in hell I would have spent $400 on it, that's going way beyond the rarity of the piece and entering into some bizarre realm where dueling bank accounts meet a kind of hipster style frenzy.

are you nu.... ?? Of cause these prices are crazy! But this makes it interesting. Collecting is hunting. Thats makes it exciting.

You shouldn't blame the market for its rules of offer and demand.

What is a reasonable price? Are 50.000.000$ a reasonable price for a picasso? Are 4$ a reasonable price for a cup of coffee at the fair? Are 700$ a reasonable price for a handpainted bemon?

As long people pay the prices they are reasonable

I guess Pogue is right the price will collapse and there are many other interesting toys to buy.

Pogue, you got a good point, I am just venting right now. I have seen the raise and drop many times, the whole HK/Urban Vinyl scence a couple years ago here did the same as well as the vinyl boom a few years ago here in Japan.

Just had to I FART A LOT about the rediculousness!!

Not anything new. Always someone testing the market limits...or attempting to push the market even higher...
