not to poo-poo the RAH idea...but Medicom did just put out a ten year anniversary mook last year...and EVERYTHING they did up to that point is in it, albeit in very tiny pictures dues to the sheer amount of pieces...
still, it's a nice volume to have kicking around if you are into any of the stuff they produce...

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that existed. Have to track one of those books down.

Or we could let Senor Flynn & Co. do their thang. I think they might have a grasp of what they're doing.

i love the mook, but as a designer I have some suggestions for improvement (not being aggressive about it, but these are the things that went through my head when flipping though. You can take my suggestions and ^&*()
i would like to see the next mook as a hard back instead of the softcover.. then the shell becomes obsolete and more trees will be happier. being hard back can retain the feel of grandness, and also you can take it off the shelf for quick viewing...
regarding articles, I think S7 knows what to do so in time there will be more and more great coverage.
for layout, i PREFER the photos as all the same size for each brand. there is enough eye candy that one doesn't need to make a special layout for. (check other mooks)
IMHO I think the KT spread had more impact... (I know it's a 2 page spread only, but you get what I am saying...they just look like as if someone had them on their shelf... or looking at Pogue's collection in his house) i also would have preferred if there were some side note "Did you knows" related to some other toy that was not covered in this issue through out the book... give the mook less linear reading...
i would love to see fan art become some kind of 12 page comic and those pages can be smaller and use different paper on that section! that would be more light hearted against the serious corporate-like layout.
also not too hot on the toys placed in patterns (THIS IS JUST MY OPINON!). i felt those layouts were not as approachable and hesitations whenever I had to refer them on the checklist.
that's all for now...had to get it off my chest...

I like to see a small spread on the Majin Bander figure.

I agree with this. While the photos looked awesome, the focus wasn't on the toys - it was distracting and I couldn't get a good feel for each colorway. Same for the SB layout - again, visually it looked cool but it didn't work well for cataloging purposes. I felt the RxH section was the best in terms of documenting each figure.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions, and we will keep them all in mind.
For many of you, the database will alleviate a lot of your questions, as we have that coming together very well. The next mook is in the works already as well, and it will cover some of the topics asked about above, but clearly not all. We have a couple really great items that will be unexpected for the next one. Here is to '08!

I would also agree with this. I really like the group shot SB photos but felt the design was kind of in "overdrive" with many of the SB individual figure shots, making it hard to identify some of them. I thought the "pattern" shots for the Bullmark and Marusan figs were cool aesthetically, but distracting when it came to looking at each figure's image. I'm for a smattering of "stylistic" shots but for the majority being large and clear, in catalogue format (like the RxH and Astro-Mu shots) with the figures doing the talking, so to speak.

I just subscribed so this was my technically my first issue. (I have since purchased a few of the back issues.)
Personally I'd love to see stuff on bullmark minis, banders and the older stuff.
But just out of curiosity, with the other 15 issues did people offer up suggestions on what to put in the next issue or was it just left to the people in charge? DOesn't matter to me either way but just wondering.

Wow, this thing took off more than what I was thinking
m3kcomp - if you read the first line of the list of suggestions I did put down "In no particular order". Everyone has their favorites and for one person, such as I, to list anything in a set order of interest isn't fair to the rest of the people on the site. Hell, I could have easily listed this stuff without numbers and in alphabetical order and Chronic still wouldn't have been #1 The list was actually started around 6:00 a.m. and was more off the top of my head than anything. Once I posted then I just figured I'd keep on adding to it rather than having some form of structure.
Anyone who has ever worked on a publication knows that you need to have stuff planned out way in advance. This ongoing list was just to give us fans one localized area with our suggestions on things that we'd like to find out more. Frankly I'm happy at any point to get new info, no matter what shape or form!
Keep the suggestions coming, though! I'm really jazzed at seeing what others would like to know more about!

well, i think everyone knows what i want to see as far as a feature article, i'm not gonna even say it
BLOBPUS
ok, i said it.
b u t what i'd really like to see is maybe mini articles on newcomers to the scene. the peeps who are the future of this whole thing. shikaruna kobo, t9g, exohead, and some of the smaller companies who maybe don't put out as much as the bigger guys but are still dedicated to making top quality toys.
i always like to see what's coming next---> fast forward into the future!
was a great first issue too by the way

I really want to see some Bemon coverage, I remember seeing a poster awhile back of all these bemons lined up like a checkoff list and I just couldn't keep my eyes off it. Their so elusive and $$$, it would be awsome to see the entire production run, as well as some one-offs.
