interesting points of view that I had not thought of before, but this had been brought up as a way to combat scammers.

the other thing you all need to think about is the large number of flippers who log on here and look at the BST as a way to make money and see what the "trends" are currently.
If they don't post, they can't read it.

I can understand all points brought up. This is a good discussion for once :)

I think that someone ready the ripoff people will find is way anyhow.

In my opinion, this is only going to lead to people being wary of buying stuff from a guy that has 101 posts as opposed to 1. It's not like someone becomes magically reliable after a number of times they've hit the 'post reply' button. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I personally dont read through every thread on the forum, so how am I to tell between a guy that has 101 posts and is here to scam, and another guy who has 101 posts but is a good contributer to the community? It still comes down to the smell test at the end of the day.

The flippers are going to continue to prey on those that allow them to, 100 posts isnt going to stop them from doing that. As far as trends go, you can easily extrapolate that from the other sections of the forum and the 'bay.

More of the same here... I appreciate the effort S7 is making in even considering change but it seems like despite the recent scam things do run fairly smooth. So many good points have been brought up here and I'm on board with many of them. I don't know the % of my stuff that has been bought on the BST but it's significant. Closing it to noobs will cut them off from older members culling the pack.
As others have said, much of this comes down to common sense. Be suspect of low post counts, and high priced grails. If there's no picture of the item ask for one! Take a look at posts a seller has made and judge for yourself whether things smell right in Gotham. If established members call someone out...pay attention.

And Jay - great post. So much of that applies to me. I'm guilty of my fair share of one liners. I don't have the knowledge or history some members here have and probably never will. However, I love reading many of those informed and descriptive discourses by members like Daniel (akum6n). It boosts my knowledge and to tell the truth inspires me. There's been numerous times I'll read something here from one them and it leads me on an exploration of my own.

Lastly, maybe when we see a suspect seller the call should go out "Remember the URZA54"

I begin to ask myself, what does it really mean to be part of a community?

Does it equate to long, articulate, informative, posts only? What about members who are equally passionate but choose to be in the sidelights because they are not as vocal and confident as the other members? Or is SB an exclusive community boards to individuals mentioned above.

What about people who wanted to be part of this community, who are also passionate in learning but prefers to listen and read from older member's' posts?

I think there are members here who seldom post but are way too cool, honest and honorable---these people I definitely respect. In some cases, some members prefer to 'pm' to communicate and converese with fellow members, there are no pm counts, are there?

Contribution to a community board can take in many forms---not just posts or post counts.

I voted for "more of the same." In 2008 people should be well aware of the risk in buying things from anonymous people on the internet.

I've got a post count of 2975, you can trust me.

There's really no right or wrong answer on this. Everything Jay touched upon is true, however, the fact that noobs will take advantage of it by posting one liners is inevitable IF this new rule does pass.

I voted for a change btw cuz I'm all for trust and security. But being not too far from a Fresh Meat myself, I understand that this will be unfair to those who are true fans wanting the benefits in being part of this community.

Scammers will continue to haunt this board whether we like it or not since they know our weakness and the $$ they're worth. The 100 post count is not a solid prevention but it can sieve SOME of the bad eggs out.

Unless a verification process of immense scrutiny is implemented then the risk will still be there. Even Paypal couldn't get it right

VERY perceptive posts here. Makes me proud to be a part of it all.

Interesting discussion with a ton of food-for-thought content. I'd say keep it the same... These last couple of rip-off outbursts are just little flakes compared to all the positive and worthwhile dealings that have happened thanks to the BST section.

Caveat emptor and laissez faire. I say leave it alone. Be suspect of new members with marginal post counts trying to sell you the toy-of-the-day. The 100-post rule will do little to curb theft. If someone wants to steal from you and you're willing to give them your money, they're going to steal from you. I also understand that there have been incidents even with some long(er) standing members, but sometimes bad things just happen to honest people. Lesson learned. No one said life was fair. I say leave it as it is.

Voted for keeping BST the same. If I thought the changes proposed would be effective, it might be different, but counting posts is irrelevant, IMHO, for all the reasons already stated.

Same. When I was in my pre-100 post stage, I got some great shit on the BST from some of the OG folks and having the shit to have & hold stoked my interest in collecting even more. Most people here have pretty good bullshit detectors and react accordingly. If a Fresh Meat on the bst seems flaky, ignore the post or pummel as you see fit.

Always against letting a tiny percentage of douchebags fuck shit up for everyone else. Noobs need to buy stuff at good prices too.

looks like we will stay with more of the same for now.
