Just make sure that it is not too big. I think the max is 48 x 48 or something like that. It says on the profile page.

I have had people size pictures down for me and they said they worked on their computer but then when I try they never work!!!!!!! it sucks!!!!!

if you choose to link an off-site avatar, u don't have to worry about size.
(using like, imageshack or some other hosting site)
thats what i did for mine, but we still try to keep them within a "normal" sized range (nothing huge)

If your using windows XP, the quickest and easiest way to resize pictures is to download windows image resizer
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... ySetup.exe
Puts the option for resizing in the context menue. Just right click on tthe image and chose resize. Click on the advanced tab to enter exact size, such as 48 x 48 or what ever.
