anyone have experience cleaning stained vinyl figures?
I got a pink valentine skull bee in the mail today still sealed with the boxers. unfortunately some of the navy color from the boxers is kind of stained onto the front of the pink figure.
anyone know anything I could use to hopefully take some of it off?
any help will be greatly appreciated
thanks

Well, I've used Windex (or something similar) and sprayed it into hot water. Then, I took a wash cloth, dipped it in the mix, then rubbed it on the stain. I've done this on vintage vinyls and had some successes.

thanks. I'll give it a shot. that doesn't sound like it would be too harsh to take color out of the vinyl either. that's what I'm afraid of, I just dont' want to ruin the figure using some harsh cleaner or something.

totally un-related but if you take wd-40 you can get the sticky shit from price tags off of clear packaging - may work for vinyl but may fuck up your figure as well?

Skylar, you have only two options. The first, is if the color has seeped into the vinyl itself (like magic marker can and will) there is nothing you can do.
If it is mostly superficial, you can clean it. I use a cleaner made by Twin Pines of Maine that is orange based and is made to clean plastic gi joe toys and vinyl. You have to cut it down with water and then clean the toy gingerly. It will slowly lift out dirt and muck, as you keep cleaning the toy, you can then slowly start removing battle marks, and if you really keep going, it will eventually take the actual paint off, but you really have to go for it. That is the best stuff. My unfortunate guess, is, if you have vinyl kiss-off, you have had a reaction between the vinyl and the ink, and you may be able to minimize it, but you will probably always have a ghost image. Good luck!
