damn! I just saw this.
TOTALLY NEGATIVE EBAY LINK
Not only is this just a rude way to sell, but then to make a lie like "I bought this . . . ". that shit was gift! at least don't LIE ABOUT SHIT!
I understand this was a rare item, but it is up to people here on the board to look at the entire picture and not bid this shit up so high. this will only encourge more leeches.

Who are the leeches? Is it Mark who listed it or those who bid it up? What's wrong with a person like Mark Nagata putting something up for auction on Ebay with no reserve and a low starting price only to have that item bid up to some outrageous amount? Doesn't seem to be the proper place for name-calling as I don't see a leech in this. Since Mark does not collect these, I don't think he honestly thought the price would become so crazy, but what was he to do -- cancel the auction because the price went TOO high? Toy karma, man. Toy karma. . .

It's pretty hard for collectors not to throw down money if it's must have. I just can't believe that it went for so much, but if you've got deep pockets it probably doesn't matter. I think we all get a little crazy sometimes for something we want. If you asked me 14 years ago if I would spend 60 dollars on a 5 inch vinyl figure, I would have said "No way! I can buy a deluxe Domino Rally set!"

I have a friend at work here who's parents are both lawers... he's loaded. He is an ebay addict and will put in a maximum bid of waaaay too much waaay too early in the auction.
I think this mindset is partially what leads to blowouts like this. Sux for the rest of us.

Thing is, people like that usually end up selling off their collections later. We will wait.
The only problem is it seems demand for RxH continues to climb.
Slippery!

if you sold the type stuff I made and come to visit me for a few drinks... and then I give you one of the things I make as a gift and you auction it off because you don't collect it, i'd be irked. that is unless I wanted to give you something you could sell to pay for your plane ticket.
i don't know if that is the situation.. but that is what i gather. you'd be naive to think he was surprised it fetched a few hundred.

I think it'd depend on my relationship with the person who sold it. Like if it was someone who I was REALLY good friends with, maybe I'd be a little ticked, but I doubt it'd be a thing, especially after seeing the price, I'd say "congrats! GIVE ME A CUT!"

I think of what an insult it would be to the artist (bwana) if I flipped his custom.
Think if you just sold one of your creations and It appears on ebay 1 week later, I would blacklist that dude from my future sales.
PS - Eriagun is selling on ebay as we speak... FLIP.

Add: Please dont bid this one up, guys - lets not encourage these flippers.

Again it comes down to relationship. What if that guy was a real good friend, would you really drop him because of that? I'd say "it's your bizznass" and then just never give them another awesome one off. But if it was some guy I knid of knew, not toooooo well, but kind of, than I'd be a little more ticked, I guess I'd feel used. But it is his bis. to do what he wants in the end.

maybe he paid for mori's dinner... and he's like, "here you go, this should more than take care of my half". in that case, i'd have a bunch of people take me out for dinner/drinks for a toy... sounds fun

I talked to him about it after the sale before he went on his trip, and I saw the figure months ago when he was only thinking of selling it. I know he had no idea it would bring that much and really did not know the market for these now. Frankly, I am not sure if anyone knows the market for these now considering I myself got outbid for a figure from the RxH Super 7 set that cost more that the entire set itself recently. And, Mark told me how he got it but I don't recall the circumstances. I think he may have traded something for it while in Japan scouting for Super 7 years ago. But even if it was a gift, what is the proper way to handle that? Someone gives you a toy years ago and you decide it does not go with your collection. Why not pass it on to someone who wants it? He could have sold it on his Max Toys site, I guess, but what is wrong with ebay? Again, he did not list it for some big price -- it started out low. I recall something like this came up recently involving Bwana and the Buzz Cola Zag. Man, let these people sell us these treasures otherwise they will be stored away unappreciated.
What should he have done? Not sell it? Sell it on the board? Give it back?
It's wrong to brand anyone without the facts. And, even then, there must be a violation of some standard, and here there does not seem to be one.
All this seem pretty petty anytime name calling comes up. This should be about the toys.

He stated in the auction that he did would not end it early and not to make offers. I think he was fairly certain it would fetch a lot of money and he wanted to maximize his profit.
I also asked him 6 months ago if he had any other RxH and never got a reply. I don't care that he sold it on eBay but don't wrap the sale in a bunch of bullshit. He sold it with the intent on making as much money as possible.
The other toy "insiders" I know never sell gifts (they might trade them). I don't think that means Mark shouldn't have sold it but it might mean people are less likley to give him gifts from now on.

Even if what you say is true, why is it anyone's business other than his and the person he got the toy from? As for price, he listed it for (I think) $70 starting. This all seems to be negative crap thrown at Mark without good reason. With Koji coming to town tomorrow, it would be great if everyone got off the hate-horse and focused on the positive. Good people can disagree, but I think name calling should be avoided because it leads nowhere productive. Toy karma will take care of the rest.

I don't think I have said anything hateful.
The fact that he sold it publicly made it everyone's business (IMO).

It seems to me like this community no longer wants people to be held accountable for their auctions.
Do what you like, but own up to what you do.

Well, I thought that was part of the new policy here. If you want to RFSO price something, then sell it here. If you have a problem of any sort with selling something on this board, then go to Ebay. This sale happened on Ebay. The price started low, and people who wanted it bid it up. The only issue seems whether the toy should have been sold. And, that issue really lies between the original two parties. I would agree with you if Mark had listed the figure for $200+ starting out.
And, talking about these things is perfectly valid. I just think the name calling is unnecessary and unproductive.

I think, in general, people should take a deep breath and not throw mad money at stuff cause it only sets new precedents on certain toys.
Certain toys that usually sold for $150 after market now reach into the $600 range.
Flippers and resellers see that a few people will pay these astronomic (in my mind) prices and price their flips accordingly. Yes, toy karma should theoretically sort it all out in the end. I guess toy karma is another name for market crash.
The leech comment refers to flippers in my mind.

So I've been reading this thread and it kinda made me feel like there are alot of arguments. When I found out about this I was kinda mad. The reason is is that if it's a gift from someone, it should mean something to you and the guy who gave it to you. Maybe it means a gift of friendship when givin. who knows. All I think is that if it was givin to you and you don't like it, maybe instead of selling it in an auction you know alot of people will bid on it, sell it at a price to a person you now who is a big fan of that company. Mori is really dissappointed finding out that someone in the USA sold a Mutant Head for that much money. The thing is he heard it from a friend of his and he kinda knew who it was cause that person is the only person in the USA that has it. He's just sad to hear these things from other people because he makes his figures for the fans and not to be just bid off like that the next day or even couple years. Well, I'm not going to be doing any name calling or anything but maybe it's time to think of how dissapointed the creators will feel knowing that a gift they gave was thrown online for cash. Just my thought.
