Post would anyone be interested in toku/kaiju shows on dvd?
I've been thinking lately about getting together a list/possible website of some of the shows I have and offering them for sale/trade on DVRs on a fan-to-fan basis. some of these shows are still really hard to find, at least in good quality. I know before I took the plunge and spent the money to buy japanese originals, I relied heavily on inferior quality tapes/vcds to see a lot of it and wished that better quality stuff was more affordable.

I just wanted to throw it out there and get an idea of whether or not anyone would be into it. you could see some of the toy characters you buy in action!

I don't have tons of stuff right now, but I'm always working on getting more.

let me know what you guys think

I should probably add a disclaimer before anyone else gets interested that the shows are completely in Japanese, no subtitles or dubbing. It's unfortunate, but it's probably the only way some of them will ever be viewed. some of them were on American tv years ago, but the copies circulating with that dubbing have normally lost a lot of the quality over the years with repeated copying and whatnot (they would have to be taped off tv in reruns or from pre-records) and sometimes are cut.

anyway, you'll have to watch them without absolutely 100% understanding what's going on. I do it, it's really not that bad, and most episodes you can either figure it out through context or find episode guides online. sometimes I like the shows better when I have no idea what's happening. it can really add to the already over the top wackiness of it all.

and you don't really need to be able to understand Japanese to enjoy some monsters fighting.

I'd be interested too! Heck, could even learn a little Japanese in the process! I used to be big into anime and have watched my share of Japanese only recordings. You're right, sometimes it is better!

i can attest to what skylar said. it really is more enjoyable to NOT know what's being said. :) and you do start to pick up some japanese while you watch-- although most of it is about monsters and evil organizations, but hey, what else do you really need to know? :)
