or a postal money order.
when i ordered the GID Galtan from him, he was very specific about the type of money order he would accept. he said it had to be an international postal money order. i had gotten him one made by my bank (bofA) and he sent it back

Definitely International postal money order. You may have to go to a post head office to do it

Okay, I found this resource: http://www.upu.int/post_code/en/countries/JPN.pdf
What city is Garimpo in and what is the "zip code"?
The "jyou" and "tyome" are still a bit bothersome, as they don't show up on the glossary in the link.
Maybe I won't send out my money today...

Hokkaido is the island/prefecture.
An example of another address in Sapporo (Hokkaido University):
Kita 10-jo Nisi 8-tyome
Sapporo,
060-0810
Japan

Or is there a city within the Hokkaido prefecture that needs to be listed? I knew it was the prefecture, but thought maybe a city needed to be listed too... Anyway, I emailed them to clarify the address. Hopefully it won't get lost in translation... rhinomilk wrote: garimpo is the store name

"Ken" means prefecture, "shi" means city, and "ku" means district or ward. So, Garimpo is in the prefecture of Hokkaido, in the district of Toyohira within the city of Sapporo. "Jyou" is also written "jo" or "jou", and "tyome" is also written "chome". If you address the letter exactly as given in the email, it will reach Garimpo without any problems. Hope this helps.

this is what I am doing but I just found out my bank, Citibank, needs 2 days to "order" the yen, now I'm wondering if the due date he gave us is for postmarking or physically in hand...

Go to SJO, you still live in SJ, yeah? They had a kiosk that converted currency.

I'm amazed at how difficult it is to buy foreign currency these days, or even have foreign bills converted into dollars in this country...what the fuck happened? 15 years ago almost all banks did it...I just go to Times Square to a huge Chase bank, but WTF?

So I just got back from the Post Office and they won't cut a money order in Yen - they'll only make it out in dollars.
How did you people get International Postal Money Orders made out in Yen like requested?
