The new Aian colorway is sort of gold mist-y. Coolness all around. Is anyone else getting the Marmit Doguu?

It's a repro of a clay figurine from ancient Japan. I will most definitely be getting one.

I just wonder what inspired Marmit to produce one? It's not kaiju, it's not really a "toy" by any conceivable stretch, but it will look great alongside other Japanese vinyl ... I guess that's reason enough. Everyone thinks the Jomon figures are cool, and as has been noted in the past on this board, this particular Jomon figure appears to have been one of the inspirations for the classic Blobpus sculpt.

The Inspire Dowarukin kinda looks like the Statue of Liberty's evil brother. (The Statue of Don't Fuck with Me)

I really like the look of this one - i'd be really keen to see what it looks like with a bit of paint on it.... might loose some of its statuesque quality though i guess...

Marmit has made pretty weird things in the past. The random extraterrestrial vinyls come to mind- Hopkinsville alien, Flatwoods (not the clear one), metallic looking guy (can't remember name). I guess if you believe that the Jomon Dogu are representations of extraterrestrial visitors, it kind of fits in even.
I wouldn't be unhappy, though, if Marmit did start to produce 'artifact' or historic figure type vinyls.

Good points akum6n. I always appreciate that you share your knowledge. I think the Doguu looks great in photos. Now I'm interested to see how it looks and feels as a vinyl figure "in person."

I love the Dogu sculpt and have been waiting for it to come out ... but unpaint-mud-brown? I don't see being a completist on this, so I think I may wait to see paint.
As to completism though, any estimate based on their history how many versions Marmit is likely to make?

Yeah, I feel the same way. Unpainted mud-brown doesn't do much for me except to give it an ancient history feel to it. I imagine that therel will be other colourways so I'm going to wait for something more appealing painted or unpainted.

A version with weathering would be neat. Or, you know, clear with guts.
Neat photo- where's it from?

I was actually looking for another photo on Google Images using keyword "Doguu," but couldn't resist that one. Sorry, I don't know anything about the building, but I'd shop there! A simple search like that will yield lots of images of the antiquities. To state the obvious, as dull as it might seem to toy collector eyes, the first Marmit colorway is clearly meant to emulate the ancient "Jomon dolls." But yeah ... history aside, some radical things could be done with paint. I'd love to see a matching Doguu / Blobpus collab!

There ya go. Perfect. I have to get past my "Martha Stewart fake patina" connotations with that look, though.

I love the colourful Last Kaijus, but yeah, this one looks like it should be in a Pottery Barn store or something...

Yeah, when this was announced I did the 'doguu' and 'jomon' Google image searches, and it's all very interesting - a lot of variety, but with a few strikingly consistent features. For my $, Marmit could do a series with only the different Doguu sculpts and it'd be worthwhile.
Looks like someone's already done a mini ... !
