Just comment on this prices. Even about 5 years ago when vinyl prices were high, these were still very high. Not saying a megalon never sold for that much, but it is not a realistic range. I paid a crap load for mine since it was the last standard sized toho piece i needed and the shop owner apologized for the price(consignment shop) and it still was not close to that range. Then again you still have to find one.

Gotcha. $5,000 seemed REALLY high to me, even if the toy is really rare and/or coveted.

Thanks for all the input!

Dutch did sum it well in the article. The bottom line is, it is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. Being patient can pay off.

i disagree with the "he owns it can do what he wants to it." owning something that maybe 15 pieces known to exist comes with a certain amount of historical responsibility . after all this thing is 30-40 years old aren't we just custodians ?

Wow, this means I've owned more than 50% of all the known Megalons? Seems kind of doubtful. Thought it is a hard figure to find I am sure the population for this figure is well over 100 if not many more.
The price itself has certainly fluctuated over the years. The first one I purchased was for ¥600,000 after searching for nearly a year and having a client desperate for one he agreed to pay that price (and this was over a decade ago). After that it was like the sky fell open and I purchased 3 more in the following year including all three color variations and it was then I first noticed the two different horn variations. I averaged about one a year for the next several years after that and the last one I purchased was for the relatively bargain price of ¥200,000.
They can be found (all variations) and with some patience you can find one at a price you are comfortable with.
