My daughter (2 years old) is in love with the RXH minis, and any other toy so long as it's pink. I think she thinks they are hers. How can you explain to a kid that these aren't toys for playing with? I can't... She always wins..

Anyone else have this problem?

I have a 17 month old but my toys are on the top shelf of my bookcase so he doesn't even know they exist.

I have tried to explain this to my cat but she doesn't understand either.

I try to convince my son that these are "Dad's toys".

He's more into his vinyl leopards and tigers so it hasn't really been an issue. Until the other day that is. I turned around to find one of his leopards attacking a custom skullwing of mine. Scratched the hell out of it! We had a chat about respecting other peoples things but in the end it was a fight figure right?

I like the "dad's toys" idea. Get a few of her own, and say dad's are off limits!

Difficult concept for a 2 year old! Getting some doubles of the minis might work, but I think she's going to have to be banned from the studio altogether.

This thread makes me sad.

Toys are for people of all ages to play with, no matter how rare they are or how much they cost.

when I come back from S7, she asks me if these toys are for her or for me. I usually bring her something back from Hello Kitty and she's happy.


i'm more worried about my son who is only 7 months. i'm afraid he's gonna want to get into everything.

I'm worried about the multiples too. My son is four but I also have a set of twins that are only just beginning to walk. My collection is in my office, which thankfully has a door, but it's located off of the rec room in the basement. Now that the girls have found their feet they have a tendency to do a lot more exploring. I'm thinking I need higher shelves - or maybe a lock.

My son knows they are mine and asks occassionally if he can hold one of them and of course I say yes. He respects them. In fact he will go and stand in front of them and count them. "Daddy you have 37 monsters." if he was only tall enough to see all the ones behind those. I gave him some of my western stuff so he could play with them when I got out of it and it was a hit.

My ten year old has his own collection. He's a big fan of Franks stuff but also has some secret base, gargamel and a coupla S7 stuff. Oh yeah he's got some Atomic Mushroom things as well too

He's very carefull of his things so he has a free ticket to check my collection out when ever he wants. When his friends are over,, the studio is off limits.

My 14 month old son is still too young and I don't want him handling these things cause he'll just put it in his mouth. So far I'm lucky that my boys are well behaved. Hopefully my third son on the way will be no diffrent.

Overall my view on my kids and my toys are..They're just toys and if my kids are interested in them, let them play. The fond memories will be worth far far more than the cost of these toys.

When my son was younger I got him started on collecting Godzilla toys.

Since he has always had his own collection, I never had any problems with him messing with mine.

i have 3 kids (12, 8, 1 1/2)...
what i've done with the older 2 is explain that these are dad's collection and i take them to a toy shop in town and let them pick out what they want and add to their collection. we sometimes have discussions about our collections and do show & tells for each other. the baby has been eyeing my zag collection lately which sort of worries me, because now she can move chairs and climb up, so the other kids act as guards for me often. she also thinks that my bigazzalon is hers because she stares at it all the time and rawwwwwwhs at it. fun stuff.

i have two girls, 4 and 6 years old..........i let them play with certain toys, but they know that they have to play with them in the computer room only, and they have to let me know first.......my girls prefer playing with my peewee herman toys, although they usually fight over who gets to be ms yvonne.......although my youngest is banned for a couple of weeks because she took one of my toys and hid it in her toybox.......i bought them some kaiju of their own, and they tend to play with them, rather than mine......when they were younger we used the "these are daddy's toys" rule and they have respected that...........but they are toys after all, and i don't mind them being played with......

Toddler sees, toddler wants! I've got a niece around the same age. So far no problems yet and I hope it stays that way. Also got a baby nephew only 6 months old but somehow I'm more worried about him

I give little kids Dummys. They like 'em, they're virtually indescructable, and if they do get destroyed, no big loss. Easily replaced with a different one. We bash them here as well we should, having more refined taste, but I think they're actually a good introduction to "art toys." Because some of them are clever, they inspire kids to ask questions and think out of the box.

Maybe toybot has the right idea. "These are mine, and this Bandai/Hello Kitty/KR is for you."

I agree with Roger but on the other hand, there's a dual context for the collector. They're "art objects" as much as "toys." Plus as we all know they're very easily scratched. Did Grandma let Junior play with her delicate English china collection? No, and Grandma was right.

I've given little kids dunnays too, xoco. and then 9 months later those same ones are selling on ebay for $25 bucks a piece. lol.

I always let my kids play with my KawsxPushead Companions and my Doma Astronaut Jesus. I tell them that KvP is God, and the astronaut Jesus is, well, Jesus. And that together they must enslave and dominate my kids collection of smurfs. it's so funny, but untrue unfortunately.

yeah, dooffy's are my kids faves too.

What's ironic about this idea is that toy companies have always used this specific format (sofubi) so they could to market toys to younger children that were nearly indestructible.

My daughter likes my Monsterism toys but hates my kaiju stuff. I have a 10 month old boy so when its time I'm going to load up on Bandai stuff for his collection.

I have a 7 week old boy, and I am really hoping that he'll get into the Godzilla thing when he's older. I am really looking forward to being able to share that with him, and also at some point, my collection. I will get him started with a collection too. Bear in mind that not all kids beat their toys up and kick them around the yard. I always looked after my stuff when I was a kid, primarily my Star Wars collection, and even carefully took the bubbles off the cards and kept the cards, because I liked the pictures. (until I destroyed all of them when I got older trying to make a trash compactor playset, but thats another story). Having said all that, he may have no interest in Godzilla, Kaiju or anything his old man is into, which is fine as well, but essentially I am enjoying collecting and hunting them now, and then I will enjoy my son having fun with them and discovering this awesome world
