I do that every weekend and no one gives a fuck The OT media hype surrounding the events of 93 didn't help though, and secured the legacy of black metal with those events. I still have the copy of Kkerrang! that has the burning church on the cover and the sensationalist articles about Norwegian BM and the supposed 'inner circle', and its absolutely ridiculous. The book 'Lords of Chaos' really didn't help either, although it is an interesting read. That aspect will never go away, unfortunately, but yes, there are plenty of very very good bands that have come from the BM scene that are a million miles away from all that hype. I am glad that the USBM scene has produced some quality acts too.
yeah, Lords of Chaos really didn't help, but it is was a good book, especially for it's time
I just don't get what the big deal is. burning churches is awesome.

Yup.
They also apparently made a stew and put itty bitty bits of his brain in it. So they could be cannibals. I read an article where the drummer said he didn't eat any, but Euronymous did. I kinda wish I hadn't seen that cover of Dawn of the Black Hearts just now... Oh well, I'll get over it.
Speeching of bands with bad cover art, and cookie monster vocals. Dahmer! Not DM, more crust grind. I just thought they deserved a mention 'cuz not only are there cookie monster vocals, but there are these parts where he sounds like he is polishing off a slurpy. Sort of a thuthuthuuhhhh sounds. Awesome!
I do prefer most powerviolence/Grind or old thrash metal, 'cuz cookie monster DM stuff seems to take a bit of the craziness/raw power out of it. Straight up screaming seems a lot more honest. When I listen to DM though, I don't mind the vox sounding that way. I find metal guys trying to sing normal kinda silly. Just my opinion.

I agree with you on the point about the hoopla. It kinda makes me embarrassed to say I like black metal, 'cuz thats all anyone thinks of.
I must say though that all my favorite stuff came out around that time... I guess the most recent album that I really liked was Panzer Devision Murdok.
Maybe for a new tread, but Favorite all time Black Metal song! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A4WSXDwAD0

If we're talking just straight up Death Metal and can only pick one I have to say Suffocation.

I really like the Cavalera CD. Reminds me of Nailbomb or old Sepultura. I did like everything up to Chaos AD a lot, so if you didn't maybe you wont like it.

I mean, I agree. but in the grand scheme of things it's better than so much other "metal" right now.

roots came out around the same time as Integrity's humanity is the devil and my friend jeff and i got into heated debates about which was the better record. obviously Homanity is the Devil is far superior. Anytime a record starts off with a track like Vocal Test its gonna be hard to beat.
