The debate on optimal run size, prices, release pace, reissue, colourways etc will never ceased for a simple reason - there are different collector characteristics.

We all collect for different reasons, some for rarity and exclusivity, some for the thrill of the hunt, some want cool pieces at retail and in the comfort of online, some dun mind paying and lining up for what they want and some simply "collect" to make some money or most likely a mixture of different reasons etc etc. It is interesting for me to learn that "business model" is also a strong influence on decision to continue collecting a certain line or not.

It also puzzle me sometime to read complaints about multiple colourways and limited runs when collecting japanese kaijus. One key characteristic of japanese toys is exactly that --- small runs with large colourways.

In short, there are many wishes and wants.
My view is RxH is doing fine now. There are enough not so difficult to score stuff around. Check out the gorgeous Kozik GID coral evil and the kaizine chaos etc. When there's enough to go around, there will be comments like "no need to buy everything RxH put out", "so many better stuff coming up' etc. Thats great because no one like evils (E, you reading this? :D).
When there's not enough to go around like the V3 evil and soon-to-be Kamen Chaos, there will be inevitable voices to up the production run etc.

The point is if you choose to join the frenzy in the hunt for the limited releases, be prepared to live with the disappointment of not scoring or paying a little more if u really want it. Conversely, you will enjoy the moment of pure joy if u do manage to score. You cannot expect to win all the time and YOU have the choice - to join the frenzy of limited stuff or go for the easy to get stuff. Personally, i like the hunt :D

If mori-san tries too hard to satisfy everyone, he is likely to end up satisfying no one.

Finally, i just want to tell mori-san that don't change anything, the formula is just right now and thats what define RxH.

I agree! Well said!

Thanks Joe.

I've been trying to figure out the best way to say this or if I'm just beating what it now a very dead horse...But I've PM'd a couple of people about this topic and I feel like if I don't say something on the forum then I'm just hiding in a corner.

Super 7 has done right by me from the very start. Without them I wouldn't have most of my collection and god knows Josh alone should get some kind of medal for putting up with all of my requests and questions.

But I do think the new system has made it harder for those of us in no-where land. Limited runs have now become that much smaller and I've noticed the bite. I was lucky enough to score a bubble chaos fighter but since then I am 0 for 12. I know it's a mix of things. RxH is the flavor d'jour and more and more collectors discover RxH every day. But I personally I can't afford the $175+ BIN after market prices, especially when the releases are coming out so quickly. It's not up to Super 7 to cater to my whims but I am going to voice my concerns.

I think an increased run size would help a little. But to be fair people will still miss out regardless...I guess there's no perfect solution, one way or the other someone is going to be upset.

hey folks,

this is certainly an interesting debate. i would just like to say that i think the frustrations with S7 in terms of realxhead are slightly misplaced.

with respect to mori's wishes, we do not publish or discuss run sizes. i think everyone understands that there are generally fewer of each RxH release than people who want them. over the last month or two of releases, we have received a good deal of emails/phone calls/shouting/anger/sadness/etc/etc/etc over people who miss out on this or that figure. i understand that as the retailer of these products, it seems logical that we are the source of the hassle, and some have gone so far as to cry foul on the way the releases are handled, suggesting monopolistic practices, greed, and deliberately cutting people out of the loop.

please understand that if we receive 'x' number of a toy, we can only offer 'x' for sale, even if there are five times as many people who want it. this is pure numbers. no matter how much somebody wants a toy, no matter how much i like you, no matter how much i want to help and make everyone happy, if we get fewer figures than there are people who want it, some will miss out.

it is not personal, we are doing the best we can.

Most of us understand and appreciate that. I know I keep saying this to staff but please don't take the frustrations personally, either.

BTW...the distro system is in place only for when there is enough of a figure to go around. Most of the recent Rxh figures weren't even put out in the distro system at all...so S7 was selling what they got like they always have long before the Distribution began...so Josh's statements are about as true as they can get...

when the Distro stores get releases it's only when there's enough of a figure to be distributed outside of S7. As it should be since this is their baby.

i think of S7 as a savior for many of us...even for those of us who have a good way to get stuff...as they have REALLY increased our ability to get many toys in general. And the distro system in the future will offer many many opportunities that would not have happened beforehand.

RxH is THE Kaiju company of the moment for many right now...there are tons of people buying it...and I'm thankful I don't collect it apart from a piece here or there because of how popular it currently is and how in demand it is. All Rxh would have been even harder to get without S7...and until the speculators, flippers, and fad collectors move on to the next big thing it's gonna be a rough ride for the true diehards.

Because it's used as a catch-all for Japanese monster vinyl?

I always think of JP vinyl as being broken into 4 categories:

Fight figure (e.g., Secret Base, RxH)
Neo/Patchi-kaiju (e.g., Cronic, Blobpus, sometimes RxH)
Neo-vintage kaiju (e.g., Bear Model, Dream Rocket, Shikaruna Koubo)
Vintage/Classic kaiju (e.g., Bullmark, Marmit, M1Go)

Maybe the last one should be two categories.

I think they would be more of the Fight Figure category. They're not really kaiju. The word does seem like it has become the catch-all for Japanese vinyl toys. When people ask me what I collect, I tell them I collect Japanese vinyl toys.

Japanese vinyl?

Yeah, you know, like Godzilla, Ultraman, and uh others.

Oh, yeah- hey that one looks like Kikaida *points to SB 8-man suit*

Yeah.. Kikaida. Yup. *dies a little inside*

so I guess S7's store site should have these esoteric categories instead of the umbrella 'New Kaiju" section?

If the Chaos isn't Kaiju, i don't know what is. It's more Kaiju than King Joe or some others. He's the definition of a Monster.

Making up categories like this is like having an argument with a music nazi about what band opened for the Cosmic Psychos in 1991 at CBGBs...really, really dense stuff...

i usually just say Toys...though i know that upsets some as well...

Yes...we all know that conversation quite well. Saying Japanese vinyl is a lot easier than explaining Kaiju. It sort of goes back to sometime last year when I was jabbing at another board memeber about the term "kaiju". The word itself carries a lot of weight because of the semantics, semiotics, and simulacra....ummm...nevermind. Maybe I'm just reading into it too much. I have called RxH, kaiju, but I did so uncomfortably. College messed up my way of thinking...

Nah, that works for efficient categorization. No need for them to be overly pedantic about their site structure.

Except that kaiju doesn't mean "monster" as simple and neat as that. Think of it more as "giant mysterious beast." There is no definition that's going to work perfectly for everyone but as Kingjoe does fall into the very conventional longstanding realm of traditional kaiju, being an Ultra foe, it's actually much more "kaiju" than the RxH Chaos, which has no media antecedent.

Not in this case. akum6n's categorizations were as perfect as they could be IMHO. It's not squabbling or "my view is the one." He nailed it knowledgeably.

m3kcomp wrote:

Well it shouldn't. That's where all this stuff comes from, historically speaking.

:-)
