 Ghost Hunters
Anybody watch this show? We just watched the episode where they were investigating some princess' hotel somewhere in New England (?). They caught some amazing EVPs. For the most part I'm not impressed with EVPs, but this was incredible. On playback was a woman's voice with an aristocratic accent responding to their questions - one of the investigators asked "Princess, are you in the room?" and her response was "Of course I'm in the room. Where are you?"!
I've been thinking about it a lot and think that perhaps it's not the spirit of a dead person, but rather a time-based anomaly. Something like the two voices traveling through a wormhole of sorts so that the present day voice was heard by the princess in her own time and her response traveled back but was only picked up by the recording device. This could possibly even apply to visual/physical manifestations of paranormal activity.
Anyway - "ghosts" are pretty interesting to me, and the thought of them manifesting due to inconsistencies in space/time as opposed to being "spirits" is even more interesting.
Anybody have experiences or theories?

I f*cking LOVE this show!
I wish I still had a copy of the EVP I captured at Manteno...

I've only seen this show a few times, but i agree with NT, most of the time i'm not impressed with their EVPs. Usually it's a stretch at best. Although i've never seen the episode being mentioned.
The idea of talking with someone through time is an interesting premise. Why should time be a one way street

I love that show. I'm inclined to be skeptical of any show that purports to investigate hauntings, but those guys seem to be on the level. 80-90% of their shows end with no conclusive evidence of a haunting (as opposed to a certain UK show where the medium gets 'possessed' in every episode... yeeeah). But the places that are haunted- man is there some weird stuff going down there!
Without respect to the theory of a time-space anomaly accounting for ghosts, I've heard this theory before in regard to certain paranormal occurrences.
Personally, I think my closest 'experience' was seeing a greenish fireball fall from the sky, making a whooshing noise. These fireballs, known as akualele or hi-no-tama (Hawaiian and Japanese) are fairly well documented in Hawaii lore, and are thought to signify a variety of spirit-related events.

Most Haunted? shite! I only watch that show for a laugh, its terrible...
and if you haven't seen this yet, shame on you!

I am more a 'skeptical believer'. I am more inclined to believe in the 'playback' theory in regards to apparitions. I think poltergeist activity is an unknown, but very natural force that individuals can manipulate.
This is going to be a long thread, goody!
I really respect the TAPS crew. These guys go in with the mindset of debunking claims, and seeing what they can explain. The small percentage of stuff they can't seems more credible than a lot of the hokey paranormal groups out there produce.
What did you think of the Penn State footage?
Orbs, btw, suck!

Was Penn State the one where a black, crouching apparition appeared in front of a stationary camera and then walked away from it and disappeared? That was pretty cool!
The light house in FL (?) was probably the most impressive video evidence of an apparition that I've seen.
And orbs totally suck. And I hate it when the do "EMF sweeps" - that shit is retarded. Pretty much the only things that impress me are apparitions, objects moving, and the occasional EVP. Most GH episodes are disappointing, but when they actually find something it makes it worth watching. And I'm glad they don't try to make something out of nothing.

I can't remember the episode names, but I have seen the recent one where the flashlight flickered on and off. I guess that could have been mechanical, but the timing was a little spooky.
There was also that episode with the heat signature of a person when no one was in the room- I think that was in a prison.

Yeah, there have been a couple of really interesting anomalies in the last few series, and yes, NT, that was the apparition. They tried to replicate it with Brian, but had no luck. Some people say you can see a sneaker as the thing 'retreats' away from the camera, but its a white blur where the feet are. People are pretty quick to dismiss it, but I find it intriguing, thats for sure.
The episode with the flashlight was pretty cool too, right when Jason said something, it started flickering.
There was a considerable heat signature in the basement of a hotel I think? the one that looked like a guardsmen or something?

There's some pretty interesting information on there, and what could be quite damning for TAPS, which is why I suspect they were banned from the TAPS message board.
Nice find though, thanks!

I'm pretty sure that I had a hallucination or two in my younger days, and I think that a person's brain can trick them into believing any number of things are real. If you are predisposed to believe in ghosts, etc., the chances of you encountering one are undoubtedly far greater than those of the skeptical---and you have to admit that some of those places they visit are pretty creepy anyway...
That said, who knows what happens post-death...maybe there is a ghost zone out there (as depicted in the movie Beetlejuice)...

I'm a firm believer in you see what you want to see. If you are looking for ghosts, you are going to find some evidence of it in your mind. Same thing with aliens, loch ness monster...elvis...

I think thats true to a degree... If you are in the mindset, then you can mis-interpret things too quickly and too easily.
I myself, as I already mentioned, am a skeptical believer, meaning I have to see it myself without a shadow of a doubt that its the real deal. I have actually had weird things happen to me, and seen some pretty odd stuff which just baffled me. The thing is, these things have happened just in the course of an average day, so there was no build up or whatever. These are the curve balls that I find interesting.

Ultra glad you dig the site.
When it comes to the supernatural I like to remember Occam's razor.
The simplest answer should be the most likely answer for the unexplained.

I enjoy Ghost Hunters. For several years some friends and I have been trying to put together a group to do an overnight tour of Moundsville Prison in West Virginia. Ghost Hunters did a show there a couple years back and found no traces of paranormal activity. I still think it would be cool to spend the night there scaring the shit out of each other.

Heck yes!
I am trying to get a small group together here in the Chi-town/suburb area. I have had a Yahoo group for a couple of years now, but its hard keeping people's enthusiasm and interest. I'll probably just grab a couple of people and do it that way, instead of trying to get a big group together.
There is an abandoned mental hospital in the south burbs which is a pretty cool place to investigate.

That's cool. This past Halloween episode where they were exploring the hospital which had several hundred tuberculosis deaths was pretty creepy. I'd love to tour that one also. Wasn't that somewhere around Chicago?

Yeah, for the most part the stories are really good, but the acting is total crap.
