today @ 4:30 pm PST Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich took to the floor of the House of Representatives to present 35 Articles of Impeachment against George W. Bush. The House session is being televised live on C-SPAN.

He's still on as of right now...

oh, he's presenting 35 articles of impeachment, he's on 14 right now...

Umm, I think we all do. It was 1999. Only 9 years ago. At least in my area. Scary to think about.

Jesus, I remember .89 gas. I drove a 69 Malibu Hardtop in high school. I had no problem feeding that 350 engine.

$4.04 here today. My 100+ mpg scooter takes me just about everywhere. Originally I bought it for recreation, but now it's my main mode of transportation. Interesting times.

Yup. These gas prices are straight BS.
How the hell am I supposed to afford the 6+ hour round-trip to S7 at $4.46 a gallon?! :x

The BBC has been banging on about this all day.
I would suggest trying to watch the program if you can. You should be able to get it online via the BBCi Player do-hickey.
Panorama is pretty good and only 30 mins (without any commercials! so pee before you watch it  )

Post Re: Oil, Bush, the war
Last time I owned a car was when gas was .97 cents a gallon. Living in larger cities with lots of transportation, or using bikes is what I've been doing for over 14 + years now and I've never looked back. The entire car/gas/oil industry is highly corrupt and has been bilking the world for years and years. They've sold the whole culture and made suburbia dependent on it. Think about how many bullshit laws are passed to use a car? Insurance? Big Scam. DMV- big scam to get money for the state. Speeding/ Traffic laws? Big scam to get money for local government. Why make a car that goes 100 +mph if you can only do 65 mph max? Never even mind upkeep of the poor quality vehicles.

Oil industry is no better supplying fuel for the car industry. They could have made cars that run forever on one tank of something by now but no it's all about money. It's interesting that people are only realizing now how corrupt the US government is and reasons why we went to war. I could tell Bush was going to do it and give all his crony friends the contracts to make a kajillion dollars as soon as he was falsely elected, It was so obvious from the word Haliburton....Why these guys have not been cuffed and lead to their own private hell prisons yet is beyond me. Sorry for the rant...

Going back to the original post...What is interesting is that I got sent another graph from my father-in-law who is a republican and he shows that the democrats are to blame.

It talks about all the potential spots that Bush wanted to tap but the democrats vetoed and banned from drilling oil but also mentions how china and India are in fact...taping into the oil reserves off the gulf coast of mexico and around the florida strait but we can't or we elected not to.

Yeah, but you guys just got electricity a year or two ago, right?

$4.21 yesterday (6/9)
$4.33 today (6/10)

I know it's even higher in some areas, but WTF? No doubt we Amerikans have been spoiled for many, many years. Looks like it's finally time to pay the Piper.

Post Re: Oil, Bush, the war
Redchicken, I am having that same discussion on another board. Being that oil prices are rising world wide, it wouldnt matter where we could be drilling. I dont think it matters how much new oil we extract in a dwindling resource. I'd like to find a graph of water to and see how many countries have privatized water as the clean, drinkable type has dwindled.

But, according to the graph above, the price of oil was actualy decreasing while Clinton was in office and then began to rise while Gore and Bush were going at it. I recall specific spikes everytime Bush threatened Iran and heard a report that if we went to war with Iran all they would have to do is sink one single tanker and the next day insurance on those tankers would cause fuel to rise by 70%. Talk about overnight World Wide economic depression.

Another thing to look at is China can go to places like Africa where we cant because they can exploit resources with out asking the govts to make human rights concessions. America was adopted on certain principles that the dems try to stand by more then the republicans do, imo. As I see it dems are for human rights and republicans are for corporate rights. Democracy vs Fascism. But thats just my opinion. We could exploite as much as China if we want to give up the ideals that this nation was founded on.

Don't get me wrong...I totally agree with your graph and the assessment of bush. I just thought it was interesting because he's very republican and his graph showed that ever since pelosi and someone else came into office oil went up and had all this stuff about how the democrats are to blame.
I just thought it was interesting that we have two different graphs in a matter of days...so obviously with election this is going to be a big deal.

I heard about this, I didn't do enough research though. How would taxing the oil companies save ME gas money? Wouldn't they just up prices more due to being taxed?

On the surface, I don't see how making them pay more money to the gov. would lower my gas prices, but whats underneath that that I'm missing?

Post Re: Oil, Bush, the war
I think you are giving one man and his war too much credit. In the late 90s when oil was $10 a barrel, there was no incentive for oil companies to find new sources. So they just relied on the known reserves around the world. At the same time developing countries were becoming more developed, i.e., China, Brazil, Venezuela, etc. Thus, a greater demand for oil with the same limited resources. BTW, gas is $4.46 here in Lahaina.
