 Do tails annoy you?
I know often with kaiju, tails add balance to a figure. Recently though I've noticed I've begun to hate tails on figures, especially when displaying them.
When using any shelf (I use detolfs), I've noticed certain figures you really really have to compensate for the back end. For example: Crawling Hedorah. Fucking forget about adding anything behind them. I'm lucky I got a Walking and Two Standing behind the ones I own. They take up more than half a shelf. Hedorah's for the most part are notorious space takers. I think after the Crawling Hedorah (Gargamel), the Marmit 2004 Hedorah is awful. His tail will go all the way back to end of a detolf shelf.
Next up: M1 Mogera. This figure looks pretty harmless, pretty straight forward and upright, BUT this mangler has a helluva long (unmovable) tail and it curves! Try grouping a bunch them together on a shelf. Same problem with M1 Angilas, the spiky backed bastard!
Good display figures for me would include the M1 Matangos, Gargantuans, Heaters, and even the M1 Gamera has a moveble tail so you can curl it up to save on space....

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
I know what you're saying. I think the only large-tailed figure I own is the CCP Doarat Hedorah. It's a great figure, but the tail does pose problems if I were to display it with other figures. However, I prefer that toy makers focus on making a great sculpt and letting the collectors worry about display issues, rather than compromising the sculpt for better "displayability". Though things like the Marnon with that protruding tongue would really annoy me - the tongue detracts from the sculpt AND makes it difficult to display.
I recently saw someone removing all their Godzilla tails in order to better display the figures.

oh yes - that was me! Mine had to be amputated - not my own private 'man tail' that is - I mean these ones! I've also got round the problem by using risers from muji with gaps underneath for tail tucking. My M1 Hedorahs, that sit on risers have all had their tails twisted and now point downwards, so I can squeeze all of them in to one shelf!

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
The CCP Hedoras are just as bad!!! I only have one Detolf, and 2 shelves have been taken up by my hedorahs!

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
I'll admit, Smogun is nice to display due to his lack of tail, but they don't bother me. I just gotta angle things right and be creative. Also I don't limit my display to the confines of a Deltof or other enclosed cube. I let them free and dust when needed, so it's a little more liberating for my tailed friends.

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
I love Goji sculpts that consider this and curl the tail around to one side.
Otherwise, I try and put a tail-less figure behind, and have it straddle the tail of the figure in front.
It's half the fun of setting up a display, making everyone fit together.

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
Just the tail on my Balzac Skullbats is enough to make me crazy and they only stick out 3 or 4 inches! I can't imagine trying to deal with a foot long Godzilla tail.

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
Yeah I was gonna say, the skullbats are a pain in thss between the wings and the tail. Ill be dealing with a ccp hedorah sometime soon. I think. Ill keep him out of the case from what I'm hearing.

 Re: Do tails annoy you?
I ended up selling off all of my CCP hedorahs primarily because it was nearly impossible to display them without having to rearrange furniture.
