 Re: McCain picks Palin
This has been the best political year in my lifetime! These next few months are going to be great. Ass-clowns vs ass-clowns in a battle to represent the fucking country!!!
A senile 72 year-old POW with an Alaskan mother of 5, lifetime NRA member, former mayor of a town of 8,000 VS. A 2 year senator with no leadership experience or the ability to speak without a TelePrompTer with a 30 year politician who has accomplished nothing and whose claim to fame is his wife dying.
We're fucked either way..... but aren't we always

 Re: McCain picks Palin
LOL... watching Hardball on MSNBC, and Pat Buchanon is great...
"She's a feminist, she's a beauty queen, she's just the gal that this country needs"
After referring to Palin as "gal" and "girl" half a dozen times, Chris Matthews had to break in and suggest to Buchanon that a 44 year old woman should probably not be referred to as a "gal" or a "girl".

 Re: McCain picks Palin
The Old White Man's Club, aka the GOP's bread and butter, must be in hysterics about now. No matter what, either a Black man or a Woman is going to the White House. I predict sales of Brandy and Scotch will be up sharply this weekend as they come to terms with this...

VS. A 2 year senator with no leadership experience or the ability to speak without a TelePrompTer ... Compared to 8 years of Bush speeches, he comes across like the President of the Toastmasters International

I didn't realize, Palin is currently under investigation by the Alaska state legislature. I'm not sure for what, but I think it's something with that oil contract. Hmm. Anyone know?

She fired Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan who refused to fire Alaska State Trooper Michael Wooten, the ex-husband of Palin’s sister - whom is currently battling in court over custody and visitation of the couple's children. The controversy is whether or not this was the only reason he was fired.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
I heard she was anti big oil. But that is neither here no there. This move on McCain's part stinks of desperation! And as Hank said, a true insult to women, republican or democrat. And insult to americans everywhere I would think.
I'm no huge huge fan of Obama, but for once this race isn;t the lesser of two evils, there is a big difference. I am interested to see where this goes and pleased to see the democrat, willingly or otherwise embracing some mild for of change, something that isn;t middle of the road for once. McCain on the other hand... well I think he's lost it with this choice.

Palin favors opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas development, something McCain opposes. Her family even gets one of its paychecks from the oil industry: Palin's husband, Todd Palin, earned $46,790 last year as a facility operator for BP Alaska in Prudhoe Bay.

ah, well, it was only something I heard and was surprised and pleased when I heard it. But that is obviously wrong. Shame... I'd like to think picutres of dying polar bears would wake her up, but if she's a life long hunter its unlikely. Plus shes a creationist, which screams FUCKING MORON!!! I personally don't think anyone who believes in fairy tales and magic, past the age of 7 should hold office (yes, that does mean that I believe 7 year olds have a better chance of running america at this point the current options)

 Re: McCain picks Palin
Whatever, I actually like Obama. I don't really view this as the lesser of two evils. Of course I haven't really delved deeply into politics since 2000, but Obama doesn't make me feel like going on a shooting rampage like so many Republicans do. At worst this is a PB&J sandwich vs a turd sandwich - one is clearly palatable.

I haven't paying much attention on the Republican sie, but is McCain even AWARE of the sheer magnitude of the mess we're currently in? Somehow I doubt it. ANother 4 years with a Republican president and it may just be time to turn the lights off and go home. The American experiment will be over. Until something is done to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US and as a country we start *producing* something other than Big Macs, fuel emissions and garbage, we'll remain royally fucked.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
for me.... if mccain had gone w/ one of the other expected choices, I would not have even blinked (at least it wasn't the former ceo of HP). although I am strongly pro-choice and anti-creationism (as people have suggested), her nomination has sparked my curiosity. so i'm not sure yet whether or not this choice is brilliant or one of teh stupidest ever.

It's a tough call. If you just look at her and her credentials. Sure she seems pretty legit. However, McCain has relentlessly said Obama is inexperienced and yet he picked someone with even less experience and who he met only possibly 1 or 2 times in his life. So I think it just kind of reminds me of a pr stunt.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
Palin is a joke. Nothing but a political ploy. And she didn't waste any time trying to exploit her gender and son in her first speech to the nation. Also, I lost count to how many times the GOP pulled the gender card today. Amazing.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
I thought this was pretty good:
In an interview released today by Newsmax, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) — Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) newly minted running mate — was asked for her “take on global warming and how is it affecting our country.” “A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location,” Palin said, adding, “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.”

 Re: McCain picks Palin
“I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.” It would seem that Palin wasn't selected to secure the female vote. She was selected to lock in the Evangelical Christian vote. Pro-life, Anti-gay, and wants to see Creationism taught in the schools. The fact she's a woman was just icing on the cake. Le'ts *hope* the Hillary voters are paying some attention here and not just voting based on gender..
