 Re: McCain picks Palin
Since the discussion has now covered female candidates with their eyes on the White House and boxing, does anyone remember this? http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/04/01/ ... index.htmlI remember chuckling at this, wondering if Hillary had ever seen Rocky, and remembering that he gets the crap kicked out of him in the first movie (by a black man, no less). Just sayin'. ;p

Is it just me or are we all fucked? Is this actually working?
She has yet to speak to ANY of the press. She's hiding. I'm so bummed because I feel like a majority of the American people are falling for this little trick. I'm sick with worry.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but yep! it is! I am with you. She has not made a "single" appearance. She has done stops with McCain only. Only read from scripted speeches and repeated herself a ton of times! Mathews showd a montage of speeches were they used the smae phrase 7 different stops same phrasing. She supposedly is suppose to give an interview to ABC's Charlie Gibson later this week. My wife is calling her a female Dan Quayle! Oh and then Obama makes a comment about putting a pig in lipstick and the McCain camp goes ape shit and says he made a veiled comment about Palin - when McCain has used the same comment many times the last time during the primaries aimed at Clinton...... nice double standard.

I don't think the 'new' has worn off yet. Hopefully when the debates start people will start to see through her..

She makes me sick. I cannot believe she thinks global warming isn't extremely aided by humans. She is insane. She was to fucking destroy Alaska wildlife refuge. Polls show it almost a dead tie and in most cases McCain ahead. Fuck, fuck, fuck. I really hope when she starts speaking on her own she fucks up. I am depressed over this.

Wow, and Austin is the "liberal" part of Texas, huh? Maybe those scientists fooling around with the collider could ship a black hole over to Texas...

What's really despicable is a new ad by the McCain camp basically saying that Obama wanted to teach kids about sex before they read. Really pathetic. I hope he hits back, and hit back HARD.

McCain scheme working? Maybe it's just a boost from the recent convention, but a +10 lead according to Gallup? Whether you put any stock into the polls or not, the numbers are unsettling. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls ... ional.html

 Re: McCain picks Palin
A journalist friend of mine told me about something that people in the news biz have been discussing amongst themselves recently: that the polling data for Obama might be somewhat inflated and he's going to get a rude awakening on election day.
Why? Because when there's someone standing in front of you with a clipboard, it's tempting to look progressive when you have an audience. When voters are alone in the booth, though, with nobody watching, they may end up choosing the candidate that closest to what they're used to, and Obama's race and message of "change" may threaten a lot of people.
We'll see.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
Interesting. So someone will abandon their gut instinct to be progressive when they enter the booth and instead opt for what's familiar? What feels safe? Isn't that like letting fear dictate your decision?

I know that the last time I voted for a presidential candidate, I chose Kerry because Bush scared the shit out of me.

We'll see. I have heard the opposite. The huge advantage in voter registration for the democrats is not being reflected in the polling. They are also saying Obama's biggest support group is the least likely to be able to get polled. Apparently if you don't have a home phone (cell only) you are not even considered for polling. I don't know very many people my age who still have land lines. I think these combined effects might even themselves out. Your money is more powerful than your vote: make a donation to your candidate if you really want to be counted. In this race a bunch of $20-50 donations might make the difference.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
I also heard exactly what Pogue said.....
You know if "Insane McCain" and the "Troll Woman" get into office we're all doomed. I think honestly those polls don't mean shit. It's the corporate powers that be, the people sponsoring these people you need to look at. Follow the money trail. It's whomever greases the most hands that will get into office They will secure power and money making opportunities for the people that got them there. Big Oil got Bush and his cronies into office. Look at their record profits? Now you need to replace them to keep it going. Hmmm there is a supposedly a oil field they need to dig out in an Alaskan Nature Reserve? Get the crazy Alaskan governor on board. McCain's agenda is just to immediately be a war time president and have absolute power or basically keep power going the way the fear mongering republicans have been for the last decade.
OK I'm over-simplifying, but you get the jist....

 Re: McCain picks Palin
I think Caribou Fucking Barbie may have just doomed the McCain candidacy with her ABC News interview.
She comes across as nervous and as reading cue cards.
What is truly scary is that she probably took us to DEFCON 4 with her comments about invading Russia.
Biden is going to make her eat the naive Russia comments at the VP debate if she shows up. Let's just hope we can convince the Russians not to attack us while we have no available military because of Iraq and Afghanistan.
Unbelievable.

 Re: McCain picks Palin
She reminds of some misguided holy roller soccer mom. Sorry, the job of vice president is not for suburban soccer moms who probably have to be told where russia is on a map. Holy War?! Palin you know where you can stick your holy war! It infuriates me to know end that religion ever got thrown in with politics. Thanks republicans, we all know you're the biggest hypocrites ever and only use it to manipulate simple minded people. My blood boils...

 Re: McCain picks Palin
What did people make of her interview on 20/20 last night?
I saw about 12 minutes of highlights and I have to say, if certainly didn't seem to help her. She came across as a bit bitchy (she seem to get quite annoyed with Charlie Gibson, who I thought did a very good job) and not the brightest thing ever. I think we all know my views on religion, but she had some pretty weak arguments for things she said in the past. Her attitude towards foreign policy seemed incredibly aggressive to say the least and pretty blinded. Being from Alaska, I'm not sure you can count Canada as a foreign country, and saying you can see Russia from Alaska, is about the lamest thing she could have said to back up her experience or lack there of.
Outside of that, it was full of sound bites and things she had obviously been told to say. When people use the exact same phrase to incorrectly answer a question, you really have to start wondering how smart and able minded they are.
