 Disruptive Pattern Material (book).
Does anyone have this? I found a relatively cheap used copy through Borders' used book search service. It's a whopping 720 pages and covers everything from the natural camouflage of animals, to the Cubists involvement with the development of the first military camo, to its prevalence in the fashion world. Oh, yeah, and Ma.K gets a little bit of exposure: Some more: What I have is actually the standard release of the book. There's a deluxe version that comes with an additional 220 page guide that catalogs camouflage patterns of the world's armies. I may end up getting that version in a couple of years when I finally work my way through this volume. ;p So far, though, the book is pretty damn cool. I picked this up about 3 years ago, its really awesome, I got the sleeved version with the two books. Its so extensive that its overwhelming, it makes any other book on any specific subject seem half assed.

The description of the second smaller volume said that it had a "swatch viewer," what is that?

 Re: Disruptive Pattern Material (book).
Camo patterns really fascinate me. I was surprised when the US Army went for those pixelated-looking desert patterns a few years ago, because at first look they appeared too inorganic to work as camo, but then when I saw 'em in person, they made more sense ... not so odd after all.
This book looks like it takes a very broad and comprehensive approach to its subject. Many thanks for posting ... gotta find a copy!

I've wanted to get this for a while but never found it for very cheap. I discovered it when I was collecting Medicom 'bricks. I had the DPM Identifier Series 1 & 2.

The idea is that it obscures "ambient colour dilution" Definitely a pricey book but I've used it extensively for work reference as well as picking paint colors for my house!

I bought the first edition hard back with 2 volumes in a hard cover holder. It's an amazing book!! I learnt a lot about pattern making part as well as the history. Very interesting coffee table book.
