As much as I'm a minimalist in design opinion, this is horrid... I didn't even like the previous version. For me the 1971 version is the "definitive" version, and the rest are just awful.

Seriously, this is just terrible. 5 months of work and over $1,000,000 went into this travesty.

Yeah the 1971 logo should just be brought back. The new one somewhat reminds me of the girl scouts of america logo, plus that typeface is just horrid.

If that's the best they could come up with, I wonder how bad the other designs were.

Hopefully, they'll see that this is a terrible change, and maintain the one they have now until they can come up with something that at the very least maintains the iconic "pepsi wave"... why would they abandon their trademark ID for that meaningless blob.

Yeah, lots of people have compared the new Pepsi logo to the Obama logo... but the Obama logo is MUCH better because the elements of the design actually have meaning and add up to making a strong ID. It has the flag stripe, it has the letter "O", it has the feeling of "a new day dawning"... smart, compact and uncluttered design.

Unfortunately, the Pepsi logo is seemingly different just to be different. The only thing similar to the previous versions is the round shape and the colors - but the history, the built up equity of the Pepsi wave is just lost.

The 49er helmet change was their attempt to remove their attachment to San Francisco... at the time (and they probably still feel this way) they wanted to try and move the team from SF to Santa Clara. And so at least that proposal for a change had some functional significance.

Looks like a cookie cutter airline logo. I hate it.

The logo itself looks imbalanced and slap-dash. No sense of proportion or connotation at all. Despite the wave motif, it's not even dynamic ... more like a lava lamp with the lamp turned off. The weird thing about the under-weighted neo-Helvetica all lower-case "pepsi" logotype is that it connotes late 60s/early 70s commercial typography, but without any context. It doesn't look hiply nostalgic or contemporary, just lazy, poorly executed.



Agreed, but at least the '62 version has its Pop Art value, and literally suggested "pop" with the bottle tab motif.
