Can you really eat that much?
Any food challenges in your city? 2lbs of noodles and 2lbs of a combination of beef and tripe in 60 min...and don't forget the broth. http://www.phogardensf.com/page.php?Page=team

Sounds like a challenge for the Man vs Food show.

Re: Can you really eat that much?
Aw man, I love tripe, but 2 lbs? I don't think I can hold 2 lbs of ANYTHING, I'm such a wimp now! I've drank a 64 oz. milk shake, 3 times, not on the same day. I didn't even win anything, just wanted to prove my gut-powers. For those who don't know, 64 oz. is half a gallon, usually the volume of your standard water pitcher at a diner (which is what it was served in.)
Food contests like this at places are always cool. Sometimes competitive eating can gross me out, but sometimes I can't NOT watch!

Shannon thinks she can do this. I'm not ready to lose $22 just to find out.

Re: Can you really eat that much?
I have not done a food challenge in 25 years. Looks like it is about 2 blocks from where I live so I might have to try it. Last time I did one it was in LA with a giant ramen that I got down, held for 5 minutes, and then expelled involuntarily. They still gave it to me for free with a T-shirt. It is always the broth that gets you.

Re: Can you really eat that much?
have they been able to start serving the nyquil and pepto laced donuts again or are they still on hold? i think just eating the pepto glazed would give you the edge you need to win that contest.

Re: Can you really eat that much?
man v. food did a food challenge at the roast grill here in raleigh
he broke the record of 17 hotdogs with chili, and the dude who held the previous record saw the episode on travel, drove down to NC from rhode island, and retook his record with 18 hot dogs
that place is awesome - it's just a bar with stools in an old house. they only serve hot dogs (they are burnt and delicious and this comes from a vegetarian!) with chili, onions, slaw, and mustard. NO ketchup. don't even ask for it or the old lady may yell at you. coke or diet coke or water. and pound cake or baklava for dessert

Re: Can you really eat that much?
Not my city anymore, but there were two particularly famous food challenges in Honolulu, HI.
One was held by the famous Japanese curry restaurant chain, Coco Ichibanya Curry House- known as the "Curry Challenge." Customers were given the meal on the house if they could finish an enormous plate of rice (reportedly 1300 grams) covered in curry and chicken katsu. You would also get your photo on the wall for a successful completion. I've read that this was recently discontinued.
I never tried this one, but I did eat the natto curry... ;P
The second one was related to me by a friend, and I have not confirmed it personally. (However, I think it is entirely plausible that they did offer this at some point.) The Hungry Lion Coffee House used to have an eating challenge where customers would get a meal on the house if they could finish two garbage can lids full of food. Ownership changed for this restaurant a few years ago (used to be owned by an older local fellow, now a younger guy from Japan), so I doubt they still do this.

Re: Can you really eat that much?
I can't even imagine a natto curry challenge! I wonder what is the ratio of men to women, who enter eating contest. I stereotypically assume that there isn't a high female turnout, as the calories consumed, wouldn't be worth the prize (unless it was a really GOOD prize!)
