freeked the F out by electrical fires, not afraid of getting burned to death but as a life long collector the idea of coming home to a blaze of collectibles is a bit scary

Drivers with any of the following:

A Buick
AAA sticker on bumper. The more stickers the scarier.
Red tassels hanging from rear view mirror
Stuffed animals in the back window

These people are unknowingly out to do me harm.

In all honesty, why do they do that? Is it like pride in showing off how many years they've been in the club?

I recently started to fear this too. Its scary to think that there is basically a new cars worth of toys that could quickly melt in a fire. The rest of my crap i don't care about.

I really don't get this photo because I'm guessing it's out of context, what is that all about? Anybody knows?

Those unfortunate children are members of the Westboro Baptist Church aka the "God Hates "I'M ABOUT TO BE BANNED"" church (cult).

Look them up on the intertoobs. Brace yourself.

I just watched a fucked up documentary about WBC on the weekend.

It is scary as fuck, they're all related and some of Fred Phelps's kids are saying how when he's gone they'll just go harder, since they were brought up in it and it's all they've known their whole lives, so unbelievably they're even more insane than he is. I'd imagine it will just get worse and worse down the line. these kids are fucked.

Post Re: What are you afraid of?
Lovecraft was right. Unknown beings of fantastic horrific form really do dwell in the deepest depths. Now whether or not they came from beyond time and space and invented humans as some sort of vulgar hybrid accident, we don't yet know for sure.

More seriously...

The thought of drowning or otherwise death by asphyxiation scares the hell out of me. When I was a little kid I had recurring dreams of monster-like or evil human figures choking me from behind. I couldn't figure out why the idea of drowning scared me so much ... it just seems truly horrific.

When I was a teenager my mom told me that there was a moment when I was a toddler when she was bathing me. Something startled her and she let go of me for a second. I slipped beneath the water and screamed and cried for long time after. Apparently I was only underwater for a second but it totally freaked me out. Mom said it was the guiltiest moment of her life and that for years she'd worried that I'd never forgive her.

Well, fact is I don't remember it (I probably wasn't even 1 year old yet) and of course I don't hold it against Mom, but I wonder if on some deep imprinting level it accounts for my childhood fears of death by drowning or choking?

Last night I watched "Insidious." Dumb movie that betrays its initial promise about halfway through, but there are many moments of truly scary nightmarish imagery anyway. I almost felt physically sick when night terrors (aka sleep paralysis) was mentioned because the experience as described in the movie (being watched by scary "visitors" while paralyzed in bed) is exactly how I experienced it as a very young lad. The experience faded away once I hit adolescence but to this day, if I dwell on thinking about it, I get chills. There are neurological explanations for why this happens that make perfect sense, but still, it's a little weird that people around the world often describe the same types of "visitors" ... old hags, vampiric wraiths, the classic gray aliens, or as in my case very formally dressed people who just stand there and glare at you silently.

I figure a lot of what we fear relates in one way or another to childhood anxieties or traumatic experiences. Part of why I love monster toys is because as a kid, monsters on TV truly scared me, but I couldn't look away. It's sort of embarrassing in retrospect to realize that most of those monsters were ridiculous costumes on "Lost in Space," but what the heck, when you're four years old you don't discern "man in rubber suit" ... it's just a monster, and he might get you while you sleep!

this still happens to me as an adult. i can't get over how scary it feels even though i'm partially aware of what's happening. why can't i just grow out of it?

In other matters... I think one of the things that scares me the most is running over/hitting someone (pedestrian) with my car. It almost sounds stupid but and I really can't pin-point the reason.

Well, since were going there... [and this is not directed at anyone in particular] What I am afraid of is some so-called veterans of this board ruining it for other people; by that I specifically mean as@#&*les who think that acting like jerks and giving attitude on SB gives them some kind of credibility out there in the real world. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it does not. Now I may be old and curmudgeon now, but I started collecting toys at a young age, and I can only guess that this is still fairly common. Especially when one considers the internet age we are living in now, and the many things kids browse around for on the internet (another thing I am afraid of btw :? ); children today have access to much more than we(I) did as children. That being said, I would hate for them to be turned off the hobby by a couple of 'unfriendly seeds'. It's actually kinda sad that people hold up their sign-up date like some kind of badge of honour. What is this forum really about anyways, is it for being elitist knobs or for sharing a love of vinyl toys? If it is the former than I can think of many other places on the 'net I can go for that. Sorry for the rant, but my point is this: talk smack at me all you want, but please just keep in mind that before you start flinging a pile of scat around at some 'n00b', just try and remember that it could be just some 11-year old kid on the other end, who (God forgive him) never heard of a Bemon and hasn't memorised every colorway from a Moog. Let's just chill out guys, and maybe even welcome and encourage others to pick up the hobby too.

Now in terms of real fear, that banshee from 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People'. Man, that thing seriously messed me up as a kid, and I still won't watch that movie. Also, I have a thing against parasites/insects that get off on us: e.g. leeches, maggots, ticks, bot flys and the like. I know I am tasty but I would like to keep my body to myself, thanks. And if you have never heard of a Candiru before, for god's sake DO NOT google it. Some things are better left unknown.

Is this what actually happens, or is this what you hear about happening?

I get tired of people speaking about this board like we're a bunch of thugs waiting to pounce on newcomers. That is really not the case. And if it is, show me some evidence.

You're inferring something that ultrakaiju didn't say. I'm not so sure that he even implied it, but I suppose only he knows that for sure. I doubt anyone will come forward with evidence of "thugs waiting to pounce on newcomers", but you don't have to look too far for evidence of what ultrakaiju seemed to be referring to.

Post Re: What are you afraid of?
So somehow twice on vacation I have had run-ins with cockroaches.
First time was in Belize, checked into the hotel, got "upgraded" to a cabana suite, went out to get dinner, came back and was laying in bed. Fist, my girlfriend saw a dead cockroach on the floor, then a couple of minutes later I see one scurry across the floor. Then a minute later another one. So at this point we already decided that there's no way we can stay there. I go to pack up my bag, and I see a cockroach run into it. My girlfriend goes to hers, on the other side of the room, and the same happens. So then its my duty to go through and find the cockroaches. In my other bag, that had granola bars and such, pour it out onto the floor to have (no joke) about 7 or 8 cockroaches scatter all over. Finally get everything cockroach free and had to go find another hotel to stay at, in the middle of the night, since the reception at our place was closed.
Then, our next trip to St. Lucia, we are sleeping in bed (with a mosquito net), only to be woken up by my girlfriend freaking out because she felt something crawling on her. Turn on the light to see two cockroaches inside the mosquito net with us. Jump out of bed, and find one more underneath my pillow. Woke the hotel owners, and got another room to stay in, where we made sure to tuck the mosquito net into the bed, and keep the lights on, haha. They said they've never seen anything like that before. Both of these places were highly rated on Trip Advisor, with nobody having any negative comments, especially anything about cokroaches.
So needless to say, I've developed a big fear of going on vacation and having cockroaches crawling all over the place.
