You forget the new school way to collect. Buy everything trendy, sell it the next week. OR Gain rockstar status and then have a giant sell off of your urban vinyl, repeat once you do the same with the jp vinyl. akum6n wrote: amethystcape wrote: ...

Re: oust the flipper
i've traded some toys because they didnt end up being what i built them up to be in my head. I tend to buy on impulse to try a little of every company over time. An example would be that i bought some oji sans and i ended up not liking that sculpt and have since sold them on the BST for what i paid for them or traded them to people for equal or less then equal. Taking something to the bay or extorting fellow board members is shitty. It's that kind of behavior that lead to me quitting my old job when i worked for lotussound (which i dont any of you guys remember him even being on the board) but he talked all big on the board and flipped all the time. Then when i quit he flipped his entire collection including some choice pushead stuff a friend had helped him get that some of you know... I have no patience for that shit you can ask anyone i constantly am trying to help people put toys on there shelves they wanna keep. Anything else ESPECIALLY helping to fuck the community as a whole out of being able to score a toy at all is not ok.

Was going to add something, but what Audio has already said is worth saying again. None of this has changed in the years I've been about this board. All same same. People always looking for someone to scapegoat.

This got me pretty fired up though. It's a really awesome toy and it's on the verge of lotteries being suspended abroad. Bums me out. Sadly the back room flips is all too true. You hook people up because you think they aren't going to flip it. Then they sell it for double what you sold it to them for. Smile to your face and stab you in the back while you walk away.(okay, maybe a little dramatic) It's fast around here these days. It's no wonder that the old board members get really tired of this and walk away.

I know its idealistic. Also taking the chance to put it out there to the lame-ducks, douchebags and flakes that are on-board, we know. It IS obvious.

Jesus... I would never claim myself innocent or say I haven't done shitty things when I needed too in the toy world BUT I think I'm done. I atleast need to take time to consider stopping collecting. There seems to be a grimmey film over sofubi these days.

I guess it's just human nature to try to take advantage of anything rare/limited in the world. Just be glad these toys are non-essential items and that there are actually boatloads out there to collect

Re: oust the flipper
Yeah some people are going to do shitty things. And shitty things get attention and notice. Watch an hour of news it will probably be 55 minutes of violence and fictional political espionage and 5 minutes of fluff. Sometimes it casts a dark shadow. But remember there are a bunch of good people out there too. Doing all they can to support and grow sofubi and watching out for their fellow collector. It always bums me out when the negativity gets so heavy people start talking about walking away or leaving the board. The good guys need to stick around and set the example and keep things moving. There will always be flippers and new guys who don't get it. Just can't let it bring you down. And keep focus on everything good that is happening.
And Grizli, you've got some crazy toy designs. You better stick around I'm expecting to see your first sofubi in the near future.

Re: oust the flipper
The problem is some of the 'good guys' were the ones fucking you and everyone preferred to pay attention to us grumpy guys. As for leaving collecting because of something happening on a small board with a relatively small amount of people (the guests out weigh the members at all times anymore), that doesn't make sense to me. I don't collect to be on the board, I deal with the board to help my collection.

Re: oust the flipper
I know there are guys on here who flip behind the scenes, and take advantage when they can, and have another image from their posts.
But not everyone is that way. I haven't had many dealings with you audio. Grumpy or not, I enjoy your posts and perspective.
This is a small hobby I'd say globally it's safe to say there are less than 500 active collectors. That's tiny. Gossip and shit will carrye. We just need to Enjoy the toys, we're lucky sofubi is going as strong as it is.

Your history shows another monster nug sold for $60+, a pair of frosty oji and kara for $69 each, and a feliz fundillo for $75. This is all within the last month and a half. I appreciate your attempt at revisionist history but ebay shows (among other things) that you bought and sold every single grody release, ripping off lulubell, grody fans, and fellow board members. you want sympathy because you supposedly lost your job ? you were probably ripping off your employer too. you're a dirt merchant, the lowest of the low. this is the part where you shut YOUR mouth and swallow some bitter pills.

amethystcape wrote: Lixx wrote: Amethystcape I have just one question for you. You admit to entering the lottery and not winning correct? I can understand you over paying for this in the secondary market no doubt. BUT you did enter the lottery man. You know what Hirota said about reselling this right? It was right on the page. Why would you risk ruining it for all of us and him banning overseas sales by throwing it up on ebay? Surely there were enough people here after them. You could have kept the sale private? That part I don't get. I'm writing all of this in a really calm manner also. I appreciate the calm response. I'm not taking your question as an attack. If I managed to pay retail for it I'd probably move it low key here. (Or I'd probably just keep it, because the missile I got with it looks awesome) Since I paid how much I did the only way I thought I'd realistically get my money back is to go through a public venue. Offering it to the want list people here with a price tag 10 times over retail would be a great way to burn bridges. Wow go to bed and come back and the thread is a page longer! (Again calm tone) OK Amethystcape I can see why you would feel people might balk at your asking price if you did it through want lists. I get that. You got back doored pretty hard by someone here and maybe you felt trapped in your position and not wanting to take a huge loss. But here's what I don't get: 1) If you were acquiring this for trade bait (and even though that's also pretty frowned upon here- I'm not naive enough to believe it will stop people from doing it) would you not already have with absolute certainty the people you were going to target for such a trade and/or already possibly have set something up before taking the leap of spending that MUCH on bait? I don't collect Nag but I know the runs are super small and there could only be so many people with them that were maybe looking for that Mecha Ju. I know often people subscribe to flavor of the week here but if someone was willing to part with that nag for this mecha ju, how did they get cold feet so quick? 2) You said: amethystcape wrote: (The identity of the seller will remain anonymous as I'm respectful enough not to out him, but if he wants to come forward let him.) This isn't the spanish inquisition no one is going to force you to name names. But it seems to me if all you said is true, you've been left holding the bag. If you were flipping it because you felt it was your only recourse to get your money back on a trade gone bad, why take the blame? I don't pretend to know how much you paid for it but from what I gather you're saying it might be 4 figures at least. Someone took advantage of you behind closed doors for a toy that retailed at what $160? Why protect that person? That's what this thread is about, people who prey on others in this community. Lastly you said you didn't want to burn bridges here by asking too much from people who had it on their want lists. But you had to have known that by putting it on ebay people would figure it out and by jeopardizing all of us from future sales -that's going to piss a lot of people off here. You can't seriously want all of us to pay for your tradebait mistake? It might force us all to go into aftermarket if overseas sales are banned. I know I'm only speculating on that but it's not helping our cause, and I suspect given the posts here not yours either. Lesson here again is patience. This "gotta have it here and now I'll pay any price" mentality has repercussions. Or the lesson could be for me as in "Why do I still care?"

Re: oust the flipper
natalia pritt's twitter makes for an interesting and sad look into the life of a professional toy flipper. you almost want to feel bad for her. but then she posts gems like: "@nataliapritt: fuck I just noticed I didn't put any tracking number on my bemon. I can't believe I trusted $2000+ on singpost to deliver it safely." or "@nataliapritt: Sup with 2k items selling 20k plus at ebay luls, need to stop my habit buying that useless figuarts shit. Zyuranger, BEMON is the real champ" or, on her sale of a one piece hat: "@nataliapritt: What kind of idiot buy straw hat for $400. Poor guy, I'm gonna give him a discount." on top of being an ebay sheister, she runs a service out of singapore or japan as well: http://www.yokattaweb.jp/

However as a gripe, it kinda bugs me that people who have done some of these things are complaining about other people doing such things. 'Nuff said. I just hope this board takes an upward turn sometime soon, whatever that might mean.

Re: oust the flipper
I don't know about this whole gorilla thing, but I'd be curious to hear how you justify instantly reselling the brown anniversary Mummy Boys on eBay, amethystcape.
You have to be careful of the distinction between flippers and resellers. Resellers have a business license and accounts with wholesalers, they pax taxes, employees, etc. Flippers buy toys that are available to anyone and resell them at higher to people who didn't have a chance to get them partly because of said flippers.

I know some people have mentioned vicious vinyl as a flipper, and while I understand he get's some "Hot" items in his store, but he does have a ton, of other product i.e. comics, statues, magazines, clothing, and vinyl lp's, and art. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about him , but I do think there's a difference between someone that has a store full of toys, and someone that sells only 1 or 2 flavors of the week, that they got because they flooded the lotteries with e-mail addresses.
