It is such a pleasure to stumble across great finds like this at charity shops. Congrats on the sleuthing, and I agree, it really touches off the display beautifully.

^^^ I paid £4 . . . . there is the same one on ebay from a Japanese seller for £120 . . . I'm pretty sure its not worth that much!
They usually go for about £40+ . . . . trouble is, now i want Oni & Kappa masks!

Another slippery slope

Surprised to see the mask in good condition considering it was at the bottom of a kids toy box at a charity store. Great find!

I always regretted not getting that poster because the artwork is really great. Got mine from Mandarake cheap so they'll be no winning lotto emails for me, but I don't care. Can't wait to get this in a proper frame when I move out of this place. The walls can't hold anything so I had to go lightweight.

I'm being lazy because I remember it being mentioned before...Who drew these for Hirota?

On a guitar kick lately and I seem to dig Gibson sunbursts.

Image

If I NEEDED another guitar I'd love to own an Explorer. Might have to sell off some toys soon.

Very nice! ES 335? The headstock makes me think it's gotta be something more special than just a 335 though. I love 'burst finishes too - at least ones that utilize natural wood grain at the center...not so much a fan of the silverburst.
I've also been wanting more music gear...specifically a new amp/cab. But speaking of Explorers, I recently found this used bass in absolute perfect condition for a song!

It's a Gibson Midtown Custom. It's larger than a 339 but smaller than a 335 and has a flat top. It's a pretty nice guitar.

I agree with you on the silverburst. Not a fan.

I dig the Explorer bass Rick Savage. Probably where my love for Explorers started.

So I NEED an Explorer and a TV yellow SG or Les Paul double cut away. Then I'll be set. It's just like collecting different colorways of toys, right?

Totally! But these toys actually have functionality! And sometimes cost a fraction of what a small chunk of vinyl costs. What's crazy to me is that there was a short period of time where I spent $350+ on a single toy, but I still waver on spending $400 on a nice piece of musical equipment. Right now there's a kickstarter for custom fuzz pedals for $120 and I haven't pulled the trigger yet - but I know the moment the new Star Case figure goes up for sale I'll be trying to score it for $120. How does that make any sense?

And what do you mean an SG OR a LP? Clearly you need both!

With a picture of Scott Reeder to boot. Now I'm interested.

Well it took a while to get to me, but I picked up this cool copy of the Kaiju Review fanzine, from back in the days when we had to scour to find any kind of info on kaiju stuff, let alone toys. Oh you kids and your crazy internets. Fall '94.
