Man, I don't know how you find all these scans, but they're a real mindblower. That one square with Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and SB Yammato all crammed together is classic.
Also the girl with the cow.
^^^ Yeah, i really like some of these recent ones i've found.
Anyone with the Bullmark History Box . . . >cough< get scanning >cough<

Ah dammit, I feel like one of those philatists hunched and peering over these for hours scutinising each with a magnifying glass. Man, what flyers! Poster size would make me swoon.

Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts
Sweet, thanks! It seems they even have some old backissues like this (jeez, was that 10 years ago already) on Amazon JP, thought not this one, but I am glad to know at least it is conceivably findable.

Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts
Awesome stuff, as usual!
I wonder if these Bandai kits are the same as the "Shogun Warriors"-branded ones that were released in the US: I think those were distributed by Monogram.
Also, anyone know the skinny on the (batt-op?) Daimajin in this pic?
Great eye. I can only say that I have seen the battery Daimajin pictured several times in various shots (I think it could even be the same photo re-used over) but have never had a chance to check an actual one out in person. One of my favourite characters, and the walker side of it just makes it sweeter. originals of these model sets are very hard to come by and I think when they do pop up fetch a tidy sum.
Some quick sleuthing turned up these pics. So by the looks of things there was a standard plastic model kit (the one shown here taken from NH) released in the 1966 from the SAN Planmodel line. Apparently you can date the specific versions by the control box colour and the colour of the vinyl used for the base of the feet (see link below for more information). I initially thought there might have possibly a metal one (?) also, based on some images along with the other battery-operated Marusans, but closer inspection leads me to think the other ones shown in the above ads are just the plastic kits also.
Original SAN box Repro M1 box Kit layed out Model insert
Now I want one even more. And for bonus, here is a cool video of him in action
There are some more excellent pics available on this site I would recommend checking out, but it looks there might have even been a re-issue, which is good news for us of the weak wallet. Nope, take that back, it is just a vintage one in immaculate shape. http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/tagamedai/64805563.html
Plenty more good pics and story available on that post. As it turns out, there do seem to be re-issues made my M1, which you can just make out by the additional stamp in the lower area of the second box.
Got to love the interweb.
Final thought: maybe they are the same but the combination of it being shown alongside the other models and the difference in appearance to the obvious model kit made me suspect there was a metal version of it. I can't seem to find anything confirming this though, so I will recant that and say it was wishful thinking on my part. If someone can read more of the text, there could be specifics there.

Gads!
Now I remember why I don't collect tin...OR battery-op toys!
Damn, Moog, those pics are tight. Did they actually release those toy houses to go with the figures??? I dunno, man, you might need to track those down! LOL
But dammit, those misty diorama pics make me swoon.
I had the chance to check our some of these great playsets in person in Japan (sans mist unfortunately) and they are fantastic. One of the best things about the 'Kitaro line to me is how much variety is available. I think this is one license Bandai really knocked out of the park - and there is something for everybody.

Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts
^^^ haha!
I've seen some Kitaro playsets that are similar but not those Bandai ones. I suppose with a series as popular as GeGeGe no Kitaro plenty of manufacturers have had a go over the years.
Bandai certainly make theirs look way-cool in those pics don't they

2200 yen for a GA-37 DX Grendizer? I'm pretty sure I paid close to a grand for mine! LOL
