Ok, I have to ask - drycleaning business is a slang/code for what? A strip bar?!? goldenstash wrote: This thread is about drycleaning now. I manage a drycleaning business. My loyal customers constantly complain and berate me over my prices. They tell me my service is not worth it, and sneak in some snide comments about how I must be an idiot without an education, etc... They constantly I FART A LOT, yet week after week they come back, surrendering their money over to me for a service they think is too expensive. Some spending $200+ each week! I wish they would stop bitching and just go to another drycleaners! I know we have the best service but there is a cheaper guy 2 doors down!!!! Go to them and stop complaining. I certainly am not lowering my prices anytime soon!

The only thing that this does is poison a hobby such as this even more so to the point that other makers begin suffering the same ills. The short span in which these are being released and the price not only alienates the collectors, but it also fosters a predatory behavior that a lot of us fall prey to only by association. Great sculpt, decent colors and fair exposure, but goddamn it! It only hurts everyone. Shig, mishka and whoever else plans this: Please, get a fucking grip, its not art and cannot be curated as such, its a damn toy and your practices help no one, but your pockets. I made ZERO money off this last release. So leave Mishka out of it. So you get a fucking grip. These are art toys and some are more expensive then others. you want cheap toys there are plenty of other threads, other message boards and other fucking toys

That is for this LAST release. But that aside, you did not address my concerns, you dont need to, but if you are going to agree with my statement of "Great sculpt, decent colors and fair exposure" half-assedly, at least look at the other half. You know, the one were I try to explain to myself how this is predatory and hurtful to the industry. I dont crave your toy, or your company and I commend you for working so hard a it. My beef is that it seems you give no breathing room to the people involved with these toys. Mishka aside, paying $850 on one of these toys as frequently as they have been released is what called for me asking Shig or you or someone that plans this to "get a fucking grip" Thanks for not even trying to see where im coming from. PS. Its not art, its a toy, Greg.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
Alright someone send me photos of their kids playing with their nags (besides Lamour Supreme)
These are art. Sorry. It took Shig almost 2 hours just to paint the eyes on the new release. This is an art form not something that is just mass produced in a factory. Yes its ART, its not a TOY, and I will argue this til I am blue in the face.

Yes its ART, its not a TOY, and I will argue this til I am blue in the face. I still have to disagree, iPhones are handmade, that doesnt make them an art form. My grandmother would spend an hour making my torn jeans into great shorts with all the fixings and what not, sometimes even adding the old Jeanco logo from my favorite old pair of camos. That, sir, is not an art form. Heck, Lamborghinis are hand made, that also doesn't make them an art form. For coming off as passionate and asking for photos, you sure are not engaging in the conversation and when you did, so many pages ago, you only surmised into why these are an art form. I can see the passion and dedication shig puts into these, but we all know that and a lot of people respect it. Do not confuse those things with art, we are smarter than that. I am just going to disconnect from this now, because you are not interested in having a proper discussion about this nor are you making any efforts to listen to any of the criticism I have outlined. I still leave our exchange feeling like you just pretend to put an ear out for the collectors but are in reality reinforcing your own notion of why you are doing the right thing, which is just delusion. I just happen to disagree with the practices of which you are, to some extent, responsible and I still believe this does more harm than good to a hobby I've enjoyed for so long.

Sorry Alice... ... I must admit i don't really let her play with the painted one. The detail and dedication that goes into the making of these is "du vrai travail d'artisan", real high level craftsmanship for sure.

Ha, I knew you had some somewhere, but couldn't be bothered to hunt through all the pages of ridiculousness that are the Nag threads. Great photos. I thought there might have also been one or two from our get together, but being the guy with no cell phone I can't help you out there. Kids like Nags. Kids like toys.

I just happen to disagree with the practices of which you are, to some extent, responsible and I still believe this does more harm than good to a hobby I've enjoyed for so long. There is nothing to discuss. I feel that these toys are art, you dont. There is this general dichotomy for years between what are actually toys and what are art pieces/sculptures, etc. At this point the line is blurred. That is why I call them "ART TOYS" people can roll their eyes, post HILARIOUS gifs, memes, etc but it doesn't change the fact that some people view these toys as works of art, and in my opinion this is a correct way to look at them. If you choose to let your kid play with them, or you play with them yourself, then in essence their are toys. This can go into the realm of what handmade doll made for a kid in the 1800s was in fact a toy, is now being sold for thousands of dollars as folk art or outsider art. No one that buys this doll doubt thats its a TOY, but the fact of when it was made, that it was handcrafted, the material used, the skill level etc, it is now adopted as art. Also don't get me wrong I do not think the nag is art just because of the price they go for, I think the majority of soft vinyls toys that come out of japan are art, and I think most people on here do as well or they wouldn't have them lined up in glass cases. Most TOYS are usually thrown in a box, crib, hamper or just left on the floor until they end up at goodwill or a yard sale.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root
Yes, art can be viewed in many ways/forms. Anything CAN be considered art Sadly, allot of people contribute good art to the value/price paid. Good art is valuable and costs allot...bad art is cheap and worthless. There are exceptions of course. Should NAGS be considered art because they cost allot? Should they be called art because they are hand painted? The bottom line is that NAGS are priced silly. Especially here, where there are numerous artists that essentially do/sell the same thing yet they charge reasonable prices for their stuff.

Because that's what all other toys on this board are, right? And if anybody else mentions yet AGAIN how it took Shig 2 hrs. just to paint the eyes - as if that somehow made the $850 price tag even remotely plausible, because he surely never gave a shit when he was selling them himself for a fraction of the price - I'm gonna have a fucking aneurysm. Also, following your logic of $$$, Coop must surely be a lesser artist than Johnny Ryan, because those Nags used to sell for a measly 16-20k. And not 200 fucking years ago. Oh, and why not take a minute to address the shit that has finally spilled over into this thread from behind the scenes instead of going on a lenghty diatribe about how dollies are art to justify your artificial inflation of prices?
