I've been enjoying this book lately, thanks to the suggestion from Adam (thanks again for turning me on to it :) ). So much material inside (makes me wish I could blow up all the pics to really indulge in the fantastic art). I would definitely recommend it to Mazinger fans; it seems heavily weighted to that and KR. Adam's already done a great job catching its inner beauty: more pics available here thanks to his generous sharing.

This was my weekend bargain find. A translated copy of Struwwelpeter. Ah, for a traumatized youth! For anyone that hasn't been exposed to them, German children's tales are not quite what you get here in the west. Let's just say that when you hear stories like these, your fear helps you to learn the lessons, not saccharine princesses and cutesy animals. [Those real Grimm tales are dark as F] Embiggen for more horror.

Struwwelpeter
_____________
Die gar traurige Geschichte mit dem Feuerzeug_____Die Geschichte vom Suppen-Kaspar

Die Geschichte vom Daumenlutscher_____________Die Geschichte von dem wilden Jäger

Yes, those images are depicting the frightful scenes as they appear to be. These are just some examples of what happens to bad little boys and girls. :| I apologise in advance for the nightmares.

I remember seeing a play in college called Shock-Headed Peter using giant puppets and animatronics that was based off this. It was creepy as all hell.

Yeah, basically Struwwelpeter and German "fairy tales" are pretty horrific. Bottom line is; kid, keep your shit together or you're gonna get seriously fucked up. Germans don't do humor

I had this as a kid too and loved it (I still can recite some of the verses).
Looking back, it might explain a lot . . . gonna ask my parents what they were thinking.

I do not think these lack humor . . . it is just Nightmare on Elmstreet humor. For toddlers.

Haha . . . . I recently found a copy too (at a boot-sale for 50p). Mine looks a bit more tatty than yours though.

I had it when i was a kid and i loved the weirdness!

Fuck you haters

Have to give thanks to Chad for trying to help me out with his contact as well. Though I was able to find this somewhere else, he gave me a very solid contact in NoLa that was very friendly and helpful.

Very nice finds, that Red King is great! He looks like some kind of luchadore in a Red King outfit; I love it.

Just got a killer new Black Flag book "Barred for Life" in the post. Some great interviews and tattoos. Better than a Rush boxset.
