First nag I've liked in a long time. Actual gloves would've been an awesome touch.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
The level of detail on that toy is amazing. I would never want to own that one or the later releases but it's fantastic and must have been time consuming.
Seeing it though makes me really miss the old head and initial simple releases. It was (despite the hype) a great looking dustman homage.

Not really digging the dress up doll thing or the new head. I really wish Shig would put more of the OG heads.

I could see if Shig did another "Bad Meat" edition, kind of like the head, a little boring at this point yes but I would give it a pass because of the whole Ronald/McDonalds theme going on, but then to paint the bodies camo color ways, now you went and fucked up.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
Just a heads up about nag clothing. I was looking at my Raw Power the other week and decided to remove the pants. The inner lining of the pants was black, and had began to stain the vinyl purple. I don't really care as it just kind of adds to the bruised look and I'm sure every other Raw Power figure probably has the same issue. Just thought I'd share if you're buying a clothed Nag and are anal about that stuff, you may want to take a look at the fabric of the lining and if it looks like the dye could run, display it naked.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
Well that is pretty awful Joe. I mean, sure I understand that it might coincidentally improve some of the 'disgusting' paints on some of the Nags, but that colouration would have to be subtle and distributed. Considering what these dollies end up costing you, I would not expect something like that to happen, and it is nice of you to offer that heads up. Sorry that happened with yours man. The lesson here might be to stick away from dolly clothes! What, another one? Man, pretty awful.

If I had dropped thousands for it, yeah I would be pissed. But I figured Shig probably had no idea that would happen and just wanted to do something cool.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
Removing the suit was one of the first thing I did with my Nag Fink. I was afraid something like that could happen. Guess I did the right thing. And I got it because I wanted a sofubi, not a doll, so the suit did not have much sense to me. I like the sculpt too much.

Not really sure how I feel about this one... The suit isn't really my jam.

It's hideously stupid just as the price for it is.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
I was enthralled by the initial pics of it. I found it tongue-in-cheek, but seeing the underside I'm a bit disappointed on some of them. Some look good, but others look rushed.
I hope some better pics come up. The sprays just look over-simplified from a producer know to take a lot of care making his toys.
Also, the price is pretty ridiculous. I suggest if he wants to keep up with his notion of this being art, to save us the trouble and look for a gallery to carry the work, that way it doesnt inflate the rest of the market and it can be gauged in a different light.

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
...i WAS really excited for this piece. Still am to be honest, just not a fan of the multi-coloured look under the clothes. I mean head, hands and body all different colours?!? LOVE the ashy face... Kinda wish they kept with that for the whole piece. Just my opinion though... gatiio wrote: Also, the price is pretty ridiculous. Kinda makes sense to continue the direct sales method - it's definitely working!

Re: A Nag Pa I Root (NAGNAGNAG)
I suggest the gallery because there seems to be a sense, at least to me, to want to elevate this to a higher art form. What happens then is that it inflates the market. So if a secret base toy or any other producer has about the same work into a toy, why one demands a higher price? It is obvious that the market exists, but it only does thrive at the expense of the hobby in general.
I'm glad he gets his money's worth, I just would appreciate more of a formal stance rather than the secrecy around the toy. A lot seems to go behind the scenes.
Beating a dead horse, but the more I am involved in the hobby, the more I like to know and understand the inflation and reasons behind it. Most importantly, i find It a very interesting bubble.

Most importantly, i find It a very interesting bubble. Amen man. My 2cents: ANY non-utilitarian object of desire, has prices to match the desire. Simple as that really. Desire = value. ...so the Nag's are desired right now. Desired to such a level even that ones originally selling for 250, were selling for 500 - 2,000 within 2 years or so. Then the new head-sculpt comes out. Shig would know desire price is 500-2,000, so he prices new ones at 850 retail. Makes perfect sense... Expensive yes. Priced to match 'desire'? Yes. ISSUE - how long will the desire last? God knows really... (Possible) RULE - i can remember my Performance Studies lecturer, saying that IF you want to become an 'immortal' artist (an arist who is known + desired post death), you need to "get in the text books". ...is Shig + NagNagNag going to get in the "text books"?? God knows. Time machine anyone? BUT what is interesting is all the collabs Shig does that spread the NagNagNag 'desire' through the art-network. Shig MAY not immediately be known post death, BUT maybe Tara McPherson, Coop, Johhny Ryan or countless others will be. AND when a future art lover looks at the 'text books' and sees how Tara, Coop, Johnny et al released versions of some weird doll/toy/hunk-o-crap called a NagNagNag, they may end up "desireing" it. Then BAM. Post death desire for the Nag. ...JUST my stoner ass thoughts obviously. FURTHER ISSUE - were will the 'desire' go to whilst Shig is alive and still making Nag's? No idea.... Are the many collabs helping to spread the desire? Yes. In my opinion.

Frank x Nag new head sculpt retail at 850 but I assume that it was a collaboration release at US so maybe shig and kozik have to split the profit. For this McNag, I'm sure it will cost more since it is a one off and come with full outfit that usually only done for special custom. Franken Nag, Joker Nag, Namba Nag and maybe more..... Can't judge the retail price for the upcoming release by this 2 releases. I like the one off body, although some doesn't match the head but it was made to wear the mcnag outfit. So the paint will be a bonus. The one on left blue and purple looks amazing and I'm sure there are more great paint that hidden behind.....

Reminds me of this old video from the MEESHKA booth... http://vimeo.com/30632909Also...Not surprised by the price(The majority of releases have been $500+ for a couple years). I'm more surprised anyone would want this release...It just looks godawful.

Shig is already in at least one art book. There's about 8 pages of my last art book devoted to my work with Shigeru, with photos of the toys as well as the packaging/header art. There is also a reproduction of the 72" x 72" Boryoku Genjin painting from my last show.
