Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts That ad featuring the two Gappa is fucking sick. The Kinnikuman ad is killer, too...though I don't know much about the full-color figures below.
The Chokinzoku is obviously a masterpiece. That is considered by many vintage diecast collectors to be the greatest Japanese robot toy of all time, zenmai notwithstanding. What's funny is that it's not even "chogokin" (diecast zinc alloy), technically! All the metal parts are actually steel.

I'd love to throw a few hundred yen away in some machines on those. Love the Toho monsters with their superimposed die-cut clothing!  Oh, and if anyone likes those Booskas, I think Lulu still has several of the same ones in their Tokyo Bodega shop; check it out.

Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts The pages in that Sears wish book sure take me back. I used to spend entire days poring over the toys in there and imaging the fun I could have. Lost dreams I tell you. I know that the Matchbox diecast is the 'definitive' Voltron, and I can really appreciate it, but the Panosh Place one was always the one I wanted. It still makes me feel funny inside.

Re: Retro Japanese Toy Adverts I actually had that '85 Wish Book...because I *distinctly* remember face-palming at that shot of the Panosh Place Voltron III with the untransformed head! That preproduction Diaclone Powered Convoy is the stuff of dreams. That (production) toy regularly goes for over a grand in good condition these days. Govarion's just terrible. LOL And you can never go wrong with gunpla ads! If only the kits came out nearly as nice as in the pics.
