Re: The "What you just got in the Mail" Thread
No matter.. the people that are worried about being cool, collecting the hype shit will blow themselves out and disappear after 6 months.
I don't care what people collect, if they think it's cool then that's great for them. If I see something that's shit then I'm just glad it's not in my collection.. It's not my place to bad mouth it. Sometimes there's too much "toy-ism" (toy version of racism??) around here.. BRB gonna post pics of my bootleg PVC bearbricks

Much like your distaste for the over hyped toys in the American Idols section. im all for variety and different taste. skullbrain has been open for all kind of toys ever since, whether its simpsons, blythe dolls collections, etc. id wish more folks would just collect what they like, buying the latest hyped up "toys of the month" seems to be the exact opposite to me. For the record, I started collecting kaiju about five years ago, with my focus being on Gargamel, Rumble Monsters, Cronic, etc. Basically a lot of the stuff that was more easily obtainable in the states from the specialty vinyl stores. And I still collect those. The list of Japanese makers I collect, hype or not, is quite long. I am not saying this to act like some super collector or know-it-all, I know very little compared to most of this board. But folks like you make assumptions because someone like me just joined the board. "Oh, he must just collect hyped toys because he is Fresh Meat and isn't into RXH". Isn't that being narrow-minded? A form of toy elitism in and of itself? I appreciate the fact that you have been around on this board a long time, have contributed more than me, and probably know a lot more than me about Japanese toys. But don't pass judgement on my tastes or character from a single post. I HAVE recently gotten into "hyped" toys like MVH and PK, but they are uber talented and I certainly won't make apologies for liking their work. And in fact, the more I look at people's pics of RxH, the more I like what I see. I have always collected a huge spectrum of stuff, western vinyl included. I am not going to reply or flame this thread anymore, thanks for your time.

I don't care for RxH because they reuse molds so much, For the price they want I expect a completely new torso, arms etc.... I must admit some of their stuff is slick and tempting though. Mike, don't let it get to you. Some folks on this board let their heads get above their knees, is all. I really wouldn't have it any other way. But yeah, it can be a bit intimidating when you're the one in the cross-hairs.

Their prices are probably some of the most reasonable on the market. $75-$100 for RxH adult figs is not that much IMO... Sick photo, Sam! looks sharp..

nice lego box, great inspiration, will try and get a christmas themed box for me & my daughter too! Bears are even less the flavor of the day than RxH here... Still, series 27 looks neat! Here is probably the cutest picture to ever grace sb. The Lego winter village is amazing. This is a shot of all sets released up to now minus one. Sorry for the weird iPhone panorama shot. maxaltoman wrote: great to see a fellow kaijin collector with some of his stuff in the lot too. My bad, Kaijin must be even less considered than Bears... That was the last Fulcraim I needed, so I'm pretty excited. Love the larger Steiny too. Wasn't aware there were two formats. hellscrape wrote: wow, oli, I really love that giant Sunshine you got. Great find!!! It's gorgeous and huuuge! And for some reason weirdly cheap! And since I'm spamming, some more shots of the toys. Please forgive my uncool enthusiasm: Still looking for the blue GID Heater, btw...

I think it's a fair answer and a sentiment I can appreciate. There are characters/sculpts that I like, but don't feel compelled to buy every different version. For example, I like the Ghostfighter because of its historical significance for Super7, Secret Base and the new JP vinyl community in its formative years (don't quote me, but I think it was the first new JP vinyl that featured a collaborative design with a U.S. company). However, I only have the 'first' subscriber Ghostfighter and 'last' DOA Ghostfighter from the 12th anniversary LBs and will probably be content with those two.

Re: The "What you just got in the Mail" Thread
Picked these up from the post office the other day. Atom timed his release to coincide with when flippers would be at the Osaka sofubi festival to increase the chances of his toys being purchased by actual fans... just another reason why he is the greatest. it was nice of him to include the bonus resin as a christmas gift.

However, I only have the 'first' subscriber Ghostfighter and 'last' DOA Ghostfighter from the 12th anniversary LBs and will probably be content with those two. I can understand that, the part stuck with me was the reuse of parts- to expand on your Ghostfighter example: You have those two GFs, but do you have any other Secret Base "Brain" style Fight figs? Because the GFs share up 75% of the same parts as any other one (arms and torso) and between the "brains" that percentage goes up to 80% (arms, torso, and inner head, only different is which "mask"). Odibex said he likes completely new figs and doesn't like reuse of parts, which is totally fine and valid. I just find it a little strange. Especially considering how often parts reuse comes into play (be it a cost saving method, or a kitschy homage to the past or whatever) in toy collecting- I mean sofubi isn't the only toy genre that does it- Action figures (GI Joe comes to mind), Robot Toys like Transformers (from the earliest days till today parts and figures get reused and recolored) to the greatest toy of all LEGO (which I realize is a different beast, but imagining someone only collecting one of each unique LEGO element and nothing else kinda cracks me up). But especially sofubi given the scope of the hobby, the costs, etc... parts reuse and recolor is part and parcel to the Sofubi collecting hobby I think. I would have thought you'd kinda have to find that aspect of it ok to find this sort of collecting appealing. This all I'll say in this thread, because it's clogging up the toy pictures, but if anyone wants to discuss this more, start a new thread maybe in the whatever section.
