We do not discuss run number here unless they are well publicized and usually not even then.

I think is taboo across the board in the jvinyl scene. If the artist doesnt release a number (which most dont) theres a good reason why.

I didn't realize this policy as well  . At the risk of stepping on some toes, can someone please explain why? Please send me a PM if it needs to be discussed in private. I don't want to offend anyone, but in the art world, often limited editions (i.e. lithographs, sculptures, etc..) are numbered and the total number of releases isn't a taboo subject. Is this just the etiquette for JP vinyl exclusively or with certain JP artists? I don't think the taboo exists for American vinyl (i.e. limited releases are often published). Please pardon my ignorance, but I'd really like to understand why it's taboo to ask and why the artist doesn't want to reveal the production run.

I cant say its just the way it is in my experience. I mean in some ways i thi k its to not hype the rarity of a figure? Even an american company like S7 wont release numbers. Unlike the western scene which seems to do the exact opposite: release numbers to hype rarity and increase "demand." Im sure the more seasoned veterns here can shed light on the philosophy

Buying a toy on it's own merit or individual desirability seems to be most Japanese manufacturers goal, regardless of how rare it is.

Unfortunately times have changed and the bullshit number now seems to mean more to some people than the actual toy . . . especially when it comes to eBay listings.

Post Re: Hirota Saigansho: Gorilla-ju, Mecha Gorilla-ju, & Tyrann
Hmmm... ok, that's good to know. Yes, it's the old sinister "rarity" factor  Such a shame, because being the nit pick person that I am, I LIKE to know those fussy details (i.e. how many were produced of an art piece), it's just a point of interest to me. I don't care how "rare" a toy is, if I don't like it, I won't buy it. Thank you for the explanation :P .

FYI, in some cases, you really want to know what number your art piece is--i.e. in lithographs, the lower the number of your print, the "crisper" the image will be. That's because after many runs of printing, the metal plate starts to experience wear, so it's an informative quality detail to know what pressing sequence your print was pulled on...

who cares what # they got/get. the important thing is you score one, should feel fortunate to have scored, and enjoy it.

i used to wonder to myself about details like that but don't anymore because i know i am fortunate to have the collection i do.

which, btw doesn't include any of these damn dirty apes..

I don't know if you can apply the "don't talk about numbers" rule to every japanese toy. Thats too much of a generalized statement. M1 freely posts run numbers on their site. I just bought a Kaijuken Red Baron (black version) and KK's blog lists the actual run number (that was 20). I think it's more a rule for toys that people heavily compete over (and the general knowledge that the run is going to be much smaller than the demand).

General rule though: if you're buying to impress friends/ flip/ looking for increasing value and not falling in love with the the toy itself -You're probably not enjoying this hobby the way you should.

I wasnt saying "dont talk about numbers" as a rule but that many producers simply dont provide them and that they probably have a reason that they dont.

HxS usually does let his run sizes be known on the header. Sometimes the number is repeated on the bottom of the toy's foot. Nothing taboo about any of that, especially if it helps to trace and ward off flippers.

I was just curious because this was a "poster" run and HxS seems to usually let the number be known.

But thanks for the clarification.

Completely useless trick to me as flippers use tons of other people to get the toys.
