Galaxy Commanders

I'm really looking forward to getting some of these. Of course subject to how much they'll go for. Looks like a good job by Skullmark and Lulubell! Apparently they're due this fall. Take a look at the whole line-up.

Nice work, spot on scale up. There are some I would want. But I think some of the faces are a little goofy and bad and just don't work well on the larger figures.

I would identify two as goofy, the first one, the lizard (seems to be called Wag) and the one that kinda looks like Bert Racoon (first column, third one down. Called Aton). I don't care at all for Wag but completely love Aton.

Tior (mine-looking head) and Yugon (Cylon-esque head) are my favorites. Looking forward to them!

Thank you David, for putting that together. You can see some slight differences on the faces on a few of them. The most visible ones, the 'mouth' on Yugon lost the lines on the last photo. And the cheeks on Waak have deeper grooves on them.

Re: Galaxy Commanders

Many proportions and details subtly but significantly tweaked. The last one, for example, they made even more overtly Cylon-reminiscent. GREAT line, though... Aton is a fave of mine, would definitely like to grab his new larger form. I wonder how they will name them?

i'm a huge Tomland fan, i'd love to pick up the alien ones. the more robot-style ones don't really do much for me.

I love all of these!!

These are crazy good. The great thing is that you will probably be able to get one of these standards for what you would pay for a mint Tomland one. :D

Was pretty stoked to see the promo bits at SDCC. I want walrus man! Anybody have any of the Marcel Dzarma versions of these dudes? Those are pretty awesome too.

Ah yes! I have the green Dzama one. Those are cool too!

Ahh, the Uzamas. I have the Sea Snake Man too, as well as Cloudiness. Love the illustration on that 1.

That was my 1st & last time in a Kidrobot store.

*Info herein moved from the SDCC '14 thread. Thanks for the start, Kopponigen!

I knew next to nothing about them(still really don't), other than they're bootlegs of Chinese bootlegs and a few tidbits that Luke explained to me, which I promptly forgot. Here's a photo I took from SDCC with the heads, though they're out of focus to the figures in the background. Sorry!

This link sums up they're history for ya (ha, good luck on trying to remember it all though) : http://www.toymania.com/334archives/tomland/

Note: be sure to click on the individual names in the menu on the left for specific item history breakdown.

Yeah, they're a tricky bunch to collect. I say Starroid (or "Starroid Raiders" to be more precise) because they were the first of the bunch. What ties them all together is the company - Tomland.

Image

Those of you who are fans of the classic Mego dolls should most definitely check out Tomland's "Star Raiders" (Starroid Raiders predecessor actually) too. http://www.plaidstallions.com/tomland/

... We should probably just start a new "Galaxy Commanders" topic, huh?

xSuicide Squadx wrote:Oh, awesome! Thank you for the link, Velvet! I definitely loved the original little figures on display. Rinsed me of old Jenner Star Wars figures, or G.I. Joe.

Character, loose and carded variation numbers sound like a nightmare for collectors!

boo velvet wrote:I know! Thank goodness I'm just after 1 of each character from any of the lines. Loose & w'o weapons is fine for me too, as long as they're in good condition w' a "like new" looking chest sticker.

It's just too insane to be a purist here. Ha, I tried.

You mentioned they remind you of Star Wars, which the body style of the smaller figures (Starroid Raiders, etc.) is most certainly bootlegged. They're success is attributed to Star Wars' too.

Going back to the Star Raiders line - except for the heads that were pulled from other projects & sources, and although there's no way to really know, some of them sure look Star Wars "inspired". I hate to think like that, as if Star Wars was the only of it's kind across all media platforms, but in this case, some just look waaay too obviously like the Star Wars character of similar comparison, albeit watered-down (which is a classic bootleg thing to do).

Yeah I have the cloud dude. One of the few things I haven't had the guts to take out of the package. Just looks so good!

Pre-orders for unpainted black versions are up on Lulubell! Looks like Nizard, Dagan, and Cytron are available. No idea if there were more and they sold out, or they're only releasing a few pre-orders at a time.

Those are the only 3 that were offered.

Re: Galaxy Commanders

These guys looks good... I'm not picking any of these three, I think I prefer the bulkier robotic body over the more human looking one. Which works out because I couldn't afford them if they were out right now.

Re: Galaxy Commanders

They certainly chose the right colourway to debut in :D
I don't know much about this line, just feel that the series would have been more exciting if each character has its own body instead of sharing two basic bodies.

Re: Galaxy Commanders

Mon Sep 15, 2014 1:33 am

Right now, they're trying to keep the range of sculpts fairly true to the boundaries of the original Tomland designs.

But who knows what's to come in the future.

Ha! I almost posted that the debut color was made-to-order for you, Joe!

Totally agree with you about the bodies - the series would be a lot more exciting if the details below the neck were as varied as they are on the originals.

The originals aren't really that varied. The body types are the same. The differences were in the stickers applied to their chests. The black has the same sticker spot, so presumably they will go that route.

I'm pretty excited for the series, but I only bought one of the pre-orders. I went with the Nizard, it has a pretty great space age Sleestak vibe.

I'm also wondering why they dropped the weapons. The originals had bootleg light sabers and blasters. I'm pretty sure the Le Merde Robot modeled it's weapons after the Starroid Raiders weapons as well. On the bright side, hopefully those weapons will fit the Skullmark figures, too.
