H Y P E R S T O I C 10:11

Wed Oct 08, 2014 2:30 am

Figured I'd cast the first stone and start this thread now since Pushead is doing a separate event from NYCC.

I really am looking forward to meeting the West coast and international PusFriends that will be in attendance.

I am hoping that you guys/gals will post some pics of some of your hauls when the smoke clears. Pics of the event would be a great addition too.

See some of you soon then..and don't forget your Hyperstoic book #3, to capture Usugrow's sig!

Can't !&^#)#ing WAIT!

Roll call! Who else is coming out?

Wish I could be making it this year just to see the Aaron Horkey stuff alone. Wish I could meet him, his stuff is my favorite.

If anyone is going and wants to pick me up a Horkey pin or something that would be raddddd

Not an excuse. Do art galleries charge covers for their openings? Nope. This is an art opening at TTs "art gallery" space. Cover charge of any amount is absurd.

I dunno about you guys, but seeing that I probably couldn't afford any of the pieces sold there anyway, I'd easily throw down $5 just to look...

Shit $5 is cheaper than a NYCC ticket.

Its not the price its the principle...

This is not a show run by a gallery so it's not really an equal comparison. This is a show run by the participating artists whose goal is to give their fans a chance to see their work in person. All of these artists have large followings and can sell their works direct online. They don't need to fly to NYC on their own dime, pay for lodging, and rent space to make sales. This show is as much a museum type exhibition (where admission is normally charged) as it is a sales venture.

For galleries, their job is to promote the artist, themselves, and sell art. The more heads they get in the door the better. They offer booze (usually sponsored) and free admission to create a scene and crowd. When you go to a big opening, don't half the people there seem to have zero interest in the artist and show?

For this show, they don't want these scenesters and passerby's, they want real fans and enthusiasts of the arts. $5 a head isn't going to make them much money but it does cover some expenses and at the same time it keeps the freeloaders away.

I think this attitude is so wrong, why should seeing art be free? and $5 doesn't exclude anyone from the show, its a pretty fair price and I'm sure they could double that or triple it if they wanted to and still get the same heads through the door but they kept it fair

Seems like a token gesture to help pay for the post show clean-up and keep curious passers-by from just wandering in and adding to the potential clusterfuck! . . . . If you have an issue finding $5 to check it out you really shouldn't be concerned with toys or art!

I'm sure that would be fine. They'll more than likely be keeping a headcount to be sure that they don't have too many people inside at one time, and once people with tickets have all gone through, there will still be people hanging out and enjoying the show, so you'll probably be good.

I guess that is a nice gesture.. and I didn't even think of all the passers by that would flood the place..
