Great news!! I seriously thought this wasn't going to happen... curiosity piqued for sure about animated series, but that's just a nice bonus to getting another feature!

I'm still completely baffled by everyone I talk to who hasn't seen the 1st one and has no interest in doing so simply on the basis of "isn't it just like a TRANSFORMERS movie?" At the very least, they need to figure out a serious anti-Transformers marketing campaign for the new one.

Yes, stoked for the news! The marketing campaign for the first one was laughable.

Good news indeed.
I'm curious why Time Warner gave up the property... seems like it did well enough for them to keep it. Hope Universal handles the sequel properly.

^ No prob

I know a lot of people didn't care for Pacific Rim, but I really enjoyed it.
As with any sequel, keeping expectations low, but will def give this one a watch.

I don't understand those that hate it and love these style of films. Guillermo is a fantastic director, and after listening to him discuss making it, he tells of his early childhood love for Kaiju and wanted to pay respect in his own way.

loved it and 2017 is too damn far away

This!!!
I also cannot believe that Godzilla was more successful, which, in my opinion of course, was just badly edited boring clusterfuck of plot-holes and disappointing monster fight scenes. Pacific Rim did everything right in my book. I cannot wait for part 2.

Completely agree. I have a huge blu ray collection with a crapload of Godzilla movies, but absolutely no desire to own that one. Didn't like the look of Godzilla at all either....with that tiny shrunken head.... it did nothing to present a memorable creature design. I think Pacific Rim was a great deal of fun and enjoy re-watching it.

So yeah... Universal nixed that release date months ago, giving the impression PR2 was dead in the water.

Good news is it's still (very slowly) moving forward. Bad news is GDT's ever-diminishing involvement in the project :|
Here's the latest:

^ Ick. Fingers crossed for a miracle, but I can now officially stop caring about the project until after the dust clears.

Re: Guillermo del Toro's Kaiju Vs. Robots Movie

Bah, not very excited to be honest. With any project that GdT leaves or is forced to abandon, I find it generally had not turned out well. And furthermore, as enjoyable as Pacific Rim was, I really don't even want to see a sequel. I would just much rather seen another film in the same genre. Considering the article says the re-write is now being done by (half of) the team responsible for Jurassic World, I am even further unenthused for this film. I really would like more properly done GdT movies, and giant robots/kaiju are delicious, but I can see that if this one quietly gets shelved and becomes one of those 'never was' deals, it might be for the best.

They gotta stop fucking with GdT. I'm sure there is probably more to it, but there are just too many of his projects stopped. Where's At the Mountains of Madness??!!!
