Talk Tennis - Skullbrain Edition

Sun May 22, 2016 10:09 pm

I did a quick search to see if there were any tennis threads on SB.. found one in BASK so it looks like there could be a few players/fans here in the commuity? I've been posting a little bit over at Tennis Warehouse's Talk Tennis forums but it's just full of trolls so hopefully SB offers some better discussion.

Figured the first day of Roland Garros is a good time to kick things off.. Can Nadal claim another Grand Slam after such a major title drought? Will Djokovic get the career grand slam? Or will somebody like Thiem surprise everybody like Wawrinka last year?

I'm a huge tennis fan. Used to play when I was younger. Big Djokovic fan- and really dislike Nadal so hopefully Novak will finally win the French Open. Come on we need him to get all 4 major titles lol.

Closest I ever got to tennis was reading infinite jest. This is going to be a fun thread to read.

Ahhh so you're one of those people hey Lixx?? Haha! Although I can totally appreciate how Novak plays, he is just so boring to watch. But consistency is such a big part of tennis and Djokovic is all about that. He just seems like the kind of guy who has really been trained in how to appear like a super nice guy on camera (especially since his 2011 season) but could be a real dickhead behind the scenes.

This recent incident is a good example of the old Djokovic shining through his new persona..

I love tennis. Been playing for a couple of years now. Definitely one of the funner sports I've played.

What the hell? Really? Boring to watch? The man is probably the most athletic of all the top tennis players! Djokovic is never boring to watch. Guy covers more court than anyone else. I've seen him get to shots I thought were impossible. He's like fucking stretch armstrong out there. I'm not sure what your definition of boring is- but he's definitely not boring.

Certainly more fun to watch than Nadal picking his ass, or Federer stroking his locks. Djokovic seems humble an honest cameras rolling or not. I like that he gets angry sometimes on the court. True competitor striving to win.

He has talent for sure - maybe too much talent, because it's boring seeing somebody win virtually every tournament for the past few years. I can't remember the last time I've seen Rafa pick his butt, or Roger styling his hair but I guess some people take notice of what they want to see

Let's see guys like Thiem, Kyrgios, Dimitrov or even older guys like Dolgopolov, Monfils or Fognini take out a few titles.. All of whom are more than capable of taking anybody else out on tour. Actually Thiem I believe has the highest win record this 2016 season. More than any other ATP player. He has taken out a few 250s (and maybe a 500?) already this year and I'm sure he will make it to the second week of the French. Huge topspin forehand, an even greater one-handed backhand than Gasquet, and a mean kicking/twisting serve.

And to keep things SB related to sooth Andy's anger here's a pic of Hollis Price:

First big match of the tournament later tonight - Gasquet vs Kyrgios. Besides the obvious issues that Kyrgios has with Wawrinka, Gasquet seems to be building a nice rivalry with Nick. Head to Head is 4-2 Gasquet-Kyrgios, however Kyrgios won their most recent meeting and has beaten Gasquet from 2 sets down in Wimbledon 2014. If you want to see some good tennis I recommend checking this one out - both of these guys are playing really well this season.
