So for all of you Bad Brains/H.R. fans, Presspop Toys is releasing the mighty vocalist in vinyl form!! https://www.presspop.toys/products/hrbb-doll
This is not in the right section, possibly not even the right board. It's a mass produced pvc and abs plastic toy.
Not too down with the 'toy,' but it has sparked my interest in seeing a Saturday-morning cartoon about Bad Brains fightin' crime with electric shreds of P.M.A.. A smoke-filled van would feature prominently, obvs - every night a new city!
I love Presspop and I love Archer Prewitt even more, but this is down there with the worst Ron English figures... Wtf happened to the gums from original illustration to finished sculpt..?!?
Yes, Bad Brains were fucking amazing but the fact that it doesn't even resemble HR is pretty sad.. well at least not to me anyway. It makes me think of them Gorillaz band member type toys.
Well, this is news to me: It seems that H.R. was recently diagnosed with SUNCT, which causes him severely painful cluster headaches. There may be no known cure, but there are treatments that can help. His wife has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help defray the costs of his care that insurance will not cover. So if you are a fan, but aren't interested in the statue, why not donate that $50 directly to the man?
Bad Brains is quite sacred for many of us. It goes without saying that the execution of any Bad Brains-related figure needs to rise to new heights and be on a stratospheric level in order to do justice to the band, HR, and their respective legacies. Releasing anything that's less than stellar is disgraceful and in poor taste no matter how genuine the intent.
www.presspop.toys/products/hrbb-doll In regards to this statuette of H.R. the lead singer of the band, Bad Brains. Officially approved by H.R. aka Paul D. Hudson, this was made by Japanese friends of his that go back decades....... Sculpted by Japanese master sculptor, Tomohiro Yasui Tip of the iceberg for those interested in knowledge: http://www.kami-robo.com/en/paper/paper01.html Costume by: Legendary Japanese Artist, Mizuho Takayama If you are not familiar with this name, perhaps some of you are on another planet. www.thriftbooks.com/a/mizuho-takayama/332294/ Last but not least, they are a Japanese company. Presspop inc. #203 , 2-13-13 Minamimachi, Kichijyoji, Musashino-shi, Tokyo, Japan 180-0003 Email: info@presspop.com Phone: +81(0)422.71.7555 Fax: +81(0)422.71.7660 Yes it was made in China but at this point, who gives a damn? Paul will also die one day and this tribute to him will meet it's merit. This is an excellent tribute made by the exact folks Paul wanted to work with. The box art is excellent too: If any real BB fans read this, buy it, screw all the noise. Unless it sounds like this: The funding closed months ago, 566 real fans and friends succeeded and helped pull together over 20K when the goal was 15K. This is the last update his wife posted: Blessings, friends. Once again, HR and I want to thank you for your support and generosity. I really don't know how we would have gotten through this past year without your help. Thank you so much. HR has improved even more since my last update. The headaches are still intense when he gets them, but they have been coming more and more infrequently. He now usually experiences several days of remission between headache "episodes". I have decided to close this fundraiser. Because of your help, we have been able to give HR the best possible treatment options over this past year-plus, and it has benefited him immensely. He will continue with his check-ups, acupuncture, herbs, etc. in hopes that he will be able to say "goodbye forever" to the headaches. We appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers. Peace and love to each of you. With deepest gratitude, Lori
