Very saddened to learn of Adam West's passing. Some of my earliest childhood superhero memories are because of him. The best Batman ever!
I disagree! Best MAYOR ever! I was shocked to hear he had passed on today. But he was getting up there in age though so i guess it was only a matter of time.
Wow, I am completely shocked to read this today. Very sad news for legions of fans, and the entertainment community at large. I don't think the impact of the Batman television show will ever be able to be accurately measured; it is so foreign to us to think of the massive divide in the presentation of the comic/super hero genre before it, and after. Especially now, as younger audiences have grown up in an age where superheroes are practically a household name, and television in general is a such an individually-consumed, choose-what-you-want, when-you-want-it, medium. The idea of serialised episodes, or tuning in regularly as one used to, to be able to catch something like Batman on TV is not something easily captured. But far beyond that, Adam West was truly a spectacular gentleman and true friend to fans and the common person. I never had the chance to meet him in person, but it is well-known how friendly he was, constantly enthusiastic, and a pleasure to work with. When so many people spend the large portion of their lives shying away from the roles that made them famous, refusing to acknowledge it (or the fanbase), and going so far to distance themselves from a character, Adam West was the polar opposite. He appreciated the people who appreciated him. He embraced the role, and all of the entire cultural history that was built from it as a result. He always seemed so approachable and honest. One of the things that really sticks out in my mind (and this was completely random) is an appearance I saw him do on a late night TV show where the crew visited his house; honestly, it was staggering how normal it was, and speaks a lot to the man himself. He was an average, friendly person; always happy to make appearances and continue giving back to audiences. I am reluctant to focus so much on one aspect of his career, but to many people he will always be Batman. That is not small feat. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. No matter what the future holds, no one will approach what he did, in the way he did it. He will be remembered, and missed. :'( CBC Obituary
Only just heard about this. Sad news. He entertained me very much when i was a kid, and more recently on Family Guy etc. R.I.P. Mr West
I couldn't have said it better... Watching Batman and Robin on TV when I was little was definitely my first superhero memory.. He was definitely the best Batman.. R.I.P. Mr. West, thanks for all the awesome memories and clever punchlines...
Still coping with it. Some characters don't really show their importance as you live with them. Once the person that brings them to life passes, it happens we realize the work, it's value and perhaps understand it's impact in our lives. Sometimes we don't get any of it, but when we do it makes life fuller. Recorcholis Batman. Santo dolor. Thank you Adam West
