What?! That's crazy! I leave on a weekday, typically Wednesdays when I travel, so that helps with cost. I checked SW and it looks like Wed night - Mon morning for you would be $300, but 2 free check ins hehe Thurs night - Mon morning is $312 Thurs night to Sunday night is $337 I spend too much time looking at going places than I do staying LOL
Ill be going again this year. Dcon 2017 was pretty fun minus the hotel screw up and the lack of water/ dehydration trying to find bottles of water that don't cost me 2 dollars a piece lol. Here's my haul from last time. I kept forgetting to post it. Spoiler
Dude!! I can’t wait to give you a massive hug. I haven’t seen you in person in over 15 years.. So excited!!
Funny story: Tony and I used to be friends in the late 90s in the DC area. (Well before we both started collecting sofubi..) He was a Drum & Bass MC and I used to be a raver/photographer. We partied together for years. We also both used to work for Tower Records as well.. I have not seen him since I left DC in 2002. So yeah, I’m kind of excited to see him.
Also Tower Records. Man didn't that close down around 2005 or some such like that? Its been ages since anyone mentioned that name. They were apart of the Media Play chain if I remember correctly.
Flying in to LAX I heard shuttle is the way to go over a rental car if you're just going for the con. ?
Shuttle van is pretty easy and the cost is likely quite a bit lower. Plus you don't have to deal with having a car and finding parking.
I'm looking at Travelocity because I haven't booked a flight in forever. Let them do the messy business. I live about 15 minutes from the local airport, but any flights from there will require a stopover in Chicago. Rather convenient as opposed to driving the 45 minutes to one of the larger NYC airports. I'm cool with chilling in a second airport.
I found a flight for $290 on priceline, but then they raised it to $325 at the last second because otherwise I wouldn't be permitted use of the overhead (2nd carry on). Its a nonstop landing at LAX on thursday at 930 AM. I wanted this so we can spend thursday fucking around. But the return flight is leaving LAX at 1pm with a stopover at NC and I won't get back til JFK until almost midnight Monday night. I will be working at 830 on Tuesday... so now I'm considering cancelling (free for 24hrs). I can spend another $60 total ($30 per ticket) to fly out of Santa Ana (closer) at the same time on a nonstop flight landing 3 hours earlier. When I was originally looking it was an extra $130, but for $60 I think it's probably worth it to switch. Ahh first world problems plus indecisiveness is a fun combo. I'm way over thinking this and nobody cares lol.
This feels like the sdcc thread used to be...about 7 or 8 years ago. I'm getting excited for Dcon and it is still 3 months away.
^ if Dcon keeps doubling their ticket prices it will be just like SDCC sooner than later @animator How much did vendor booth costs increase this year?
carrental8.com is a awesome site for car rentals... i know this sounds like a plug. but the last 4 times i've had to rent a car i use them... they have a graph that shows all the agencies and if you search through them, you can find as low as $15 a day. i've used this in L.A, Portland, New Mexico, and New Jersey. might want to think about at least looking into it if you decide you might want to be mobile in the LA/OC area. Parking will be kind of a nightmare... but for wondercon we used the disney parking lot even though it states dont use it if going to the convention center. they have no way of knowing lol
if i remember correctly about $700 for a corner booth. i had the prices, but i forgot them. definitely not too bad, especially if you share.
I haven't been to California for many years and gf has never gone. Will be landing at LAX on Thursday at 9AM. What should we do for the day? I remember route 101 and santa barbara being really pretty... I wouldn't mind driving up to 2 hours if I could spend the day there. Still, I guess Venice Beach and other closer options are good too.
Yeah, still says COMING SOON for me... I'm also getting a temporary server error. Looks like the site wasn't prepared for so much traffic.
