And the medical community has been working to treat/cure malaria, flu, diabetes, and cancer for multiple decades. C19, multiple weeks. These numbers are presented in a way to make the viewer say "why are we so worried about C19, when we should be more worried about cancer/diabetes/etc". Well, we are worried about those other things, and have been - and continue to be - working on addressing them. It's not an either/or. It's disingenuous to compare the death toll of long-fought diseases to something brand new.
Brand new and moving rapidly within the most vulnerable of our citizens. Down playing this by comparing it to other diseases with known transmission/causes is a lethal mistake. Stay home. Only buy what you need. Practice good hygiene. Pretend everything is covered in poo if you have trouble doing so. Be civil and be kind.
You all can say what you want to say and do what you want to do. Downplay it or blow it out of proportion . . . Ima staying home and keeping the fuck away from people as much as I can. Until this craziness is 'under control' . . . this right here works just fine!
Serious question; Someone on the board has a friend or family member infected with covid-19, has a friend or family member of someone on the board died of covid-19 infection?
Just stop already. I don't know if you're trolling or just Internet arguing, but no one seems to agree with your point and whatever argumentative value it once had is gone.
At this point it may be something of trolling and a point of view, however I feel that I have not been rude to anyone to have a reprimand from the administrators of the page. I did not know that everyone should agree with my opinions in order for my arguments to be valid, I have the same right as others to express my opinions, they may or may not agree with them but this is part of free speach. Now the only thing I have said from the beginning is the following 1) I feel that for some reason in most cases instead of giving correct information about the virus, it seems that the intention is to scare the population too much. 2) I have said that there are people who due to their working conditions live daily and for these people for economic reasons it will be more difficult to live in quarantine. 3) When we make our purchases, only take what is necessary to be considerate of others. I just said that panicking and having a catastrophic mindset that the world is going to end doesn't help anyone. That’s all.
no one cares about your opinion. you are free to speak as you like and you will - unfortunately -continue to do so. what we are trying to get you to understand is that posting numbers, you don't understand and don't correlate, is not a good idea.
Apparently you do not know how to read, I never said that the diseases described had a correlation, it was only a reference that there are other diseases that are taking more lives than the current virus and yet some media want to spread fear in the population rather than calm and give adequate information, we all have to take care of ourselves a little more than normal is true but without panicking. I understand that because of your condition you are more sensitive to the subject. And as I said I don't need the approval of anyone I think we all passed high school a long time ago and I'm not interested in seeking the approval of the cool kids of the Skullbrain.
Roger, Looking at the thread here I would just say that 1) There is no reason to compare covid to other viruses or diseases. It is it's own thing in it's own time. (Even just 1% is +- 8 million people!) 2) If you are not in the media don't talk about the media trying to scare people. They are doing their jobs. If governments everywhere are making announcements daily regarding covid it is the medias job to post that information. It isn't to create fear, be left, or right. It would, I imagine, be far worse if information was not shared. There is a reason to keep telling people that there is a danger and to practice social distancing for a while. There are people that die during hurricanes because they do not watch media and don't know it is coming. Sometimes you (the media) really has to drive the point in. 3) Posting these remarks just frustrates people. You may be trying to share an opinion but it might seem very antagonistic to others. You are right that panicking does not help. Being informed and doing the right thing might help. I am not suggesting you mean wrong in what you say. I imagine you speak out with concern. Entire nations do not come to a halt from anything but such a dire necessity. The rich and powerful do not want industry to stop or economies to fail. This is very real. I hope that you are respecting yourself and others and practicing social distancing. Hoarding has started. Panic hasn't. I am actually amazed at how well the world is doing. Everywhere people are actually being on really great behavior considering the situation. I am out of work because of this. So I have fear of financial instability as well as sickness. Next time you post just think of that first. How will my post affect those already effected?
@SaintOfSpinners Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it, I can agree with some things you say and others not so much, but I respect it. As for the free media, there is no such thing, at least in the mainstream media, usually fear or the morbid sells more, but that is another topic. But as I said before, only time will tell. And yes I can be wrong and if necessary in its time I will say it. Wish you the best!

RE: Derail The post that started all of this implies, to many, a false equivalency intended to diminish the importance of heightened mindfulness rather than a embodying a nuanced critique of those that might well be trying to exploit or incite the masses with their reportage. Just something to consider
Never let it be said that this world is not populated by individuals of questionable character and/or judgement. Grocery store throws out $35,000 worth of food it says woman deliberately coughed on
Just ventured to the store for the first time since lockdown. Orderly queuing outside but some people instantly forget the 1 x Chewbacca rule when the red mist descends inside. Also saw several people stockpiling 4-packs of Corona Extra . . . unsure if they are being ironic or think it will keep them safe!
I read a Buzzfeed "article" about beer. Corona is generally left on the shelves in the US, but is doing okay in Europe (based on retweeted dumb pics). So I'm leaning towards irony. Sidenote: the local brewery does home delivery. I have taken advantage of that offer.
Thought i'd drop by to see how you're all doing and saw your calling! What do you mean by now ? Doing fine so far, you all stay safe !
Bahahahaha, thanks man. I think I needed that. Speaking as someone with one, one should not make any assumptions when it comes to 'PhD,'
