The mind boggles; I ignored Takkong to the peril of my soul. No idea that the gradations were problematic.
It's his squat nature. Even the giant and standard sizes are smaller than their counterparts. But the giant size is beefy! .
From the book, the mid-size Takkong (included the text in case someone wants to translate): The mini: Looks like the angles of the feet and cant of the head are different on both toys.
Great stuff, thanks for clearing that up. I can see now from these pictures just how different the sculpts are, not sure why ClubTokyo says it is another sculpt of the medium, just a mistake I guess. I will definitely be getting the Saito book, from memory I was advised years ago to get it and I think sadly it was the book I purchased that got lost by the postal service, I will try again!
Club Tokyo is a very old site. Most of the info on there regarding vintage Bullmark figures was probably created long before good reference books on the figures were published, so there are bound to be errors and gaps.
Very happy with my new acquisition, Astromons in blue with gold spray, I believe this is the hardest colour to find, I think they did this figure in orange, dark green, grey and blue but others may know of more?
Love that shelf, Mark, both 'new' and vintage. I'll always love the classic Hedorah, but man, is that second 'tall' Goji giving him a run for the position. Such lovely blue sprays on that guy.
OK, I posted in the vntg. mail thread that I had just gotten what I thought might be the last in my lineup of those mini NTV robots. Here's a pic; all but the bigger blue on the left are clearly marked Bullmark: Here's another pic of all the robos that I thought were NTV but aren't stamped as such. Over half are bullmark though: Any advice? Am I missing some (i usually am) any stories about this in the lore of bullmark (and others)?
Great collection ... you have a few to go yet ! One guy that needs more representation is Big Bison .. here's mine.. The bigger blue on the left you mention is called Black Masai .. he is by Yonezawa as is the green Big Bison in my pic.. when I get a chance I will post a pic for you of missing ones
thanks; it is somewhat ironic that I am selling down and retiring while the only 2 things that I've bought in 90 days are vintage minis that I've been chasing for years. Why now, O Lord of Toy, why now?
I would, but as memory and strength go, I look at stuff that I'm starting to forget the names of and didn't get around to rearranging due to multiple naps. Believe me, it is out of love that stuff is leaving the man cave... the idea of my wife not bothering to read sales instructions and just dropping a bag of giant lizards off at goodwill on her way to Michael's and JoAnn's makes my liver bleed. Better to set a decent sale up to just the 'brainers first (like I did with the butas) than to be found in my room with a bunch of stuff. Things gotta move around for the hobby to flourish I think. But whatta I know?
Wise words from the old codger! We all need to come up with contingency plans for our vinyls in the case of life tragedy. Both for the sake of our immediate loved ones (because our collections are often worth a small fortune), and also to make sure toys get recycled back into the community and not at some random goodwill drop off point just as you said.
Here is what is left of my collection as I prep for The Dependz Age. Many bull minis and a mere handful of reg sizes, but mostly Old Ones; bull, bandai, marusan and marmit, a few miura. Ignore the upper right shelf; a couple that I'm keeping for me and some give away things.
Decided to get all my bullmark minis together for a group shot. I need to get back to collecting these, this group is pretty much unchanged for a year or two.
Just released these four Satan Beetles from their bag prisons, not normally as keen on the repro mini Bullmarks but after seeing the original Satan Beetle for sale in Japan (250,000 yen!) I think I can safely say I won't be purchasing an original anytime soon. These four look like they are having some kind of evil meeting!
