Sadly, yet another in memoriam thread to add to Skullbrain. A Chicago native, Ramis always seemed to me to hold honorary Canadian status with his counterparts of the era. His comedic stylings embodied that great humour of the Second City alumni. His contributions to comedy and film are too numerous to mention, but with titles like SCTV, National Lampoon's, Meatballs, Caddyshack, and Ghostbusters among them, it is a safe bet that most people who passed some time in the 70s and 80s enjoyed his work at one point. SCTV and Ghostbusters in particular will always be dearly loved by me. RIP.

I still regularly watch Ghostbusters. And the Ghostbusters toy line was one of my favorites as a kid. At least he is immortalized in plastic.

After not having thought about Mr. Ramis in a while, I randomly turned on the TV last night to find Stripes playing and watched a good portion of the film. The sad news today of his passing was a bit eerie to hear in that regard.

Ghostbusters speaks for itself but Groundhog Day will always hold a special place in my heart. It was one of my mom's favorites and we had a tradition of watching it together every February.

To call Harold Ramis' contributions to the world of comedy "noteworthy" would be a huge understatement. It's nice to know his memory will live on in the films loved by so many people...

You just gotta love that understated Ramis style:

Goodbye Harold, you sure gave us some laughs and grist for the thought mill. :(

I've had this little exchange running in a loop inside my head since '84 -

    • Venkman: This reminds me of the time you tried to drill a hole through your head. Remember that?

Egon: That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me.

A great director and a funny actor.
    RIP, man.

    Janine Melnitz: You're very handy,
I can tell. I bet you like to read a lot, too.

Dr. Egon Spengler: Print is dead.

Janine Melnitz: Oh, that's very fascinating to me.
I read a lot myself. Some people think I'm too intellectual
but I think it's a fabulous way to spend your spare time
I also play raquetball. Do you have any hobbies?

Dr. Egon Spengler: I collect spores, molds, and fungus.
