Japanese soft vinyl. All sizes count. You can revote if your answer changes.

    Im in the low hundreds.

I also havent been collecting for a long time, four or five years?

I wonder who has the most toys? Also, I only counted for my soft vinyl stuff and not the non-vinyl toys and tons of resin crap I got.

I bought my first pair of rxh fortune cats for valentines day 2011. two years later, just over 250 total.

9 pieces. I like to actually own less in the big scheme of things. once the collecting starts picking up and getting random and impulsive, I sell to ground myself again. there are some things I focus on, or things that I won't sell--but small is interesting to me. and very focused.

I condensed my collection from 250+ to just 40(and slowly growing). Just collecting one sculpt from one company. It was hard to do but makes me appreciate what I have so much more.

He who dies with the most toys . . . still dies!

I don't know if anyone cares to join me but when I get home and take an actual count I am gonna make a tally of unpainted, clear and gid breakdowns within the whole

As a new collector (2 years+) this subject kind of fascinates me.

At this point in my collecting (40-50 toys) which pretty much amounts to dabbling in a variety of things that have attracted me, I've realized that i need to have some form of gameplan to control my finite cashflow vs want of endless amounts of awesome toys old and new. Lately, I find myself constantly thinking: Do i focus on multiples of a few sculpts i love? Do i force myself to buy only one version of a piece and move on? Do i only collect what I can complete? Or only spend xx amount per item?

Deciding on how and what to collect is almost an ongoing compulsion in itself, never-mind the actual collecting.
I'd be interested to hear thoughts from members who reached that crossroads in their collection where they had to focus, or simply give up trying to focus, and what decision-making went into that.

Great poll! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who needs intervention

The only golden rule I go by: If it doesn't stop you from eating, collect what you love!

I am totally estimating, having my collection split up among different places until I can arrange a permanent home, but with a 100 toy window, I am guessing it is more or less accurate. Thinking about the numbers is hard, but let's not even get into dollars spent over all the years of collecting :? .

i have 35 vintage toys, and about 20 non vintage toys, give or take. since picking up vintage collecting, it has become a slow and more fulfilling search for me. toys i connect with, research, watch the shows they were based on, etc. slow and steady wins the race, that and my limited budget allows me to stop and think before i buy, or the fact that the toys i want arent readily available always

"Do i force myself to buy only one version of a piece and move on?" this was my initial collecting mentality, find the best colorway of each sculpt I like snag it up and shoot for another sculpt, but then super 7 had to keep pumping out awsome rose vamps and I already had a handfull of greenmons so eventually I started to hunt down other awsome plant monsters and it became a focus, smoguns started a little differantly, "that looks cool which one do I like best" I landed on the devastator colorway and my mom bought me one for xmas, once in hand I was instantly in love, so smooth and yet so chunky, so detailed and yet so plain, after those 2 focuses came into view I started to like the way things fell into place display wise and started to collect only certain things, albeit alot of certain things but certain things none the less

    Great perspective G!
Either by choice or no choice, parring down can be liberating.
Then focusing on a smaller scale as you suggest, can draw out what one really likes or enjoys with even more excitement. At least for me anyway.

Sometimes I have this weird OCD issue thinking; "Shit I need at least 3 versions of that because in my mind I think its a great three dimensional triptych to display!". I've gotten better about that hang-up so I've been able to slim things down.
    I think! ; )

Around 50 right now, with a couple more on the way. I have some resin also that weren't included

Just did a rough count...More than I thought!
I have never really counted them before but I have about 300 on display  (and of course there are a handful of others in storage and stuff)

I should have also mentioned how thankful I am that this poll specified 'sofubi' rather than just toys.

So micros, minis, mids, standards and jumbos all count as one as long as they are sofubui? '83 Bandais are hard vinyl, right? Keep those out of the count? Also, most candy and capsule toys are made in China so skip those too, yes? Eeep, I have no idea the numbers that live here but it'll be fun to count. Thanks for focusing the OCD for a while!

My thinking was the same. Once you get to a certain number it isn't worth counting anymore.

I'd think somewhere around 300, but I have stuff in storage and couldn't get an accurate count so that is a guess.

I never kept count either, but I finally got around to cataloging my toys so I know exactly what I have, since stuff is in different places, storage, etc. That gave me a number and made me curious about other collectors.

I know I have spent my lunch money on a toy before!

Yeah so many collectors collect other types of toys, it would be a mess to try to poll.
