    [IMG] Marusan Godzilla 1966

Over fifty years old and the victor of countless childhood battles, this toy has managed to survive intact without a single loose joint, crack, or bent limb. The original vinyl color is a light turquoise blue, but the decades of paint deterioration, dirt, exposure, and wear on the ultra-heavy coverage of dark green paint have dyed the exterior multiple shades of green. This is especially noticeable on the inner arms down to the underarms which are unpainted. Although most vintage Marusan gojis retain a red paint color for the hand-painted eyes and mouth, which sometimes are delightfully over-sized and sloppy, this paint run displays a flame orange which nicely offsets the greens. The paint might now look orange from aging or exposure, or perhaps it was originally selected in the factory along with the green sprays. I enjoyed discovering a couple drops of the orange paint also landed on the lower left leg just above the ankle. I feel this kind of factory imperfection provides a fun wabi-sabi vibe. The soft and thin vinyl in these early “green” runs is not the greatest quality with millions of tiny air bubbles just under the surface waiting to open up and collect dirt particles. This beast arrived with some of the fiercest paint rubs and embedded dirt that I have seen. Although I have other examples in much better condition than this dirt-encrusted warrior, I felt this much-beloved and war-scarred KingGoji repeatedly fought Kong and so many other kaiju outside in the 60’s and 70’s that he is now a bit crusty and filthy. I have been waiting to contribute to this thread for years, and this finally feels like the one. It's so old and worn that even the original owner's marker ink has almost faded away:

^ Post of the year, no question about it. The IN IT FOR THE RIGHT REASONS award has been bestowed a few months early as well. Congratulations, Mr. Metal. It is our honor.

Just spotted your Green Goji post Mark! Thank you for sharing these very special photos! I can easily sense how much love you have for the Beastie, he's definitely landed in a good home. He has a strikingly wonderful patina and a lovely matte finish, and it's amazing to think he's survived intact all of those years, especially as a play object. He definitely has a "presence of ages". I really like that shade of green and orange, it makes me imagine him as carved in jade with vintage coral eyes and tongue. He must display wonderfully! Do you have him in his own acrylic showcase? Beautiful toy.

Thinking about buying a Vinyl Wars J Tail. I just don’t understand the smattering of red paint on his hands. Is it supposed to be blood? Is it a reference to an older toy? I’ve never seen it on the other Bullmark-style Godzilla toys.

It's supposed to look like the Aurora model kit box:

Everyone who is a kaiju sofubi collector should have some version of the original Marusan Godzilla figure. It's on Amazon right now for $62 which is a good price. I have one, it's a great figure. Dump some loose change into a Coinstar and get a gift certificate before you buy. ;p

That’s the exact listing I was looking at. Ebay also has some 92 Bandai colorway of the same sculpt for around that same price, but I’m not a big fan of the Black/silver scheme. Thanks for the info on the history of this color!

My main collecting goal for next year is to get all the Bull/Maru sculpts (as reissues) of the monsters from the Criterion DVDs. I have an Anguirus on the way, and my wife got me a Ghidorah for our anniversary, that I’m not supposed to know about.

I would recommend scouring Mandarake to find the characters you're still looking for. Some of the 1990s Bullmark reissues that Bandai did are going for as low as 1500-2000 yen. Combine a bunch of them from the same store and you save a lot on shipping.

^ Ohhhh, nice pick-ups, Rei! Pilot Ace made maybe the best modern Gojis: Cartooned-up from the Yujimades; and not quite as rigid-looking as the Toygraphs. Full yum.

Tubby up there remains a huge want of mine.

It’s nice going through the bins at the storage spot, but I do miss having enough space for all this stuff..

By far that Pilot Ace King Goji is one of the best sculpts of that particular Godzilla, unfortunately it's still on my wish list.

Not my image, but I do have this Toygraph set w/ the good Doctor Serizawa. So much personality in G's face!

I think the diver sets are some of the best Godzilla toys ever produced. I absolutely love the chunkier Toygraph figures and the scales on these are a really nice touch.

It’s so funny how things come full circle.

I remember that Godzilla cartoon from the 70s and I totally remember loving it when I was a kid!

Recently, my three-year-old has become obsessed with Godzilla, so I’ve been teleported back to my childhood! I’ve introduced him to the cartoon from the 70s (unfortunately I can’t seem to find full episodes anywhere, but he loves watching the few episodes that are on YouTube.) This past Christmas, I bought him the DVD set of the Godzilla cartoon from the late 90s/early 2000s. I also bought him some Godzilla toys from Bandai. So far, he’s got a couple Godzillas, Mecha Godzilla, Biollante, Mothra and Gidorah. Recently, he learned how to open up my detolfs and he grabs my Blobpus toys and pretends that they are Hedorah, so I imagine I’ll be getting him his own Hedorah as well..

He also loves watching the old school movies as well as the new ones. They are kind of hard for him to sit through so sometimes we just fast forward to the monster parts.

I have shown him the photos from this thread and he is fascinated! 8)

I don’t know if this has been posted, forgive me if it has..

this video shows the evolution of Godzilla‘s atomic breath throughout the years, my son and I have watched this video probably close to 100 times already..

Skip to the two minute mark, there’s some weird paid advertisement embedded in the video..

A couple days ago, I went to the park with my boy. We brought one of his Godzilla toys and Mothra as well so he could play with them with other kids while at the park.

Well, somehow, his Mothra fell out of my sweatshirt pocket and I couldn’t find it. I lost one of his favorite toys. He was a mess for the rest of the day. I quickly jumped on Amazon, ordered a different Mothra toy and told him it would be waiting for him when he got home from school yesterday. When his mom picked him up from school, it was literally the first thing he asked about, thank God it was waiting on our front porch when they got home from school.

Until I get a proper giant size "real" one, this beautiful Iwakura stand-in is a huge favorite!

Bro, I absolutely love being a dad. If I knew how amazing the whole experience would be, I probably wouldn’t have waited until my mid 40s to become one. as much as I love the time we have now, I can’t wait until he’s a little bit older and we can start playing video games together.

Also, I’m looking forward to the new Godzilla/Monsterverse show, I can’t wait to watch it with my son!
