Hmm... I think I'm weird or something: I love the first three tracks of Ugly Organ, with that amazing pick-up after the intro track, and then a couple of the later tracks, but I think it drags in the middle. Domestica I just can't seem to get into. In concert, Cursive was just blow your fucking face off rockin' out, so I think I associate them more with the big and powerful arrangements like in Happy Hollow, and the really clever writing of stuff like Red-Handed Slight of Hand. It's not like I can really get away with considering my tastes refined or anything... I just popped The Used's first album back in in my car.
Recently I was lucky to catch Mika Vainio play live at Elektra, Montreal's digital art festival. (Mika Vainio is one-half of the Finnish duo Pan Sonic). Weird, noisy, but some good beats and lots of overwhelming noise. Why oh why do I never remember to wear earpugs?.... the venue even had them supplied as a courtesy, but I didn't note that until after the show...
It's dnb Friday. Lately I've been all about atmospheric, mellow, liquid, and some darker dnb. some stuff I've been playing today Bachelors of Science http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR-93sTtt_8 An oldie but extremely fantastic goodie, Makoto and Conrad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcMSABXvP9Y And this is a clip from Fabio's show, this song is really fantastic. If you're in agressive mode listen to; Ill Bill, Necro or Non Phixion! Party Modes; Stephan Bodzin, Paul kalkbrenner or modeselektor!
I'm not that into jazz but I just got those Microscopic Septet albums that I really love. Art Spiegelman covers !
Love 50s/60s Jazz but haven't listened in a while - I'll have to queue some stuff up. Early Atlantic, Verve, and Blue Note artwork is great. One I should frame up... There's a guy down here in St. Petersburg named Herb Snitzer that used to work in NY who produced a lot of iconic jazz images.
This week its been all about Johnny Cash, I must have listened to this a good 5 times in the last day and a half and it never gets old :
for the past few weeks I've been constantly listening to witch house. and crass. but mostly witch house. Shit's goofy, borderline cheesy, but can't fault catchy synths with big crunk beats. Something different. Check out: ///▲▲▲\\\ Modern Witch Salem White Ring (check out their split w/ oOoOO here: http://www.eeemotion.se/ ) oOoOO

Agreed. It's been on constant rotation lately. A bit bummed I'll be missing them in July because of SDCC.
Been listening to the Action is Go lately. First time in years. Damn I love this album. It proves that Brant needs to get back behind the drums! The new Sleepy Sun album is excellent. CD release party June 10th at the Great American for interested Bay Area folks.

That record is so good! I remember in high school I made a tape with Quicksand on one side and Helmet "Meantime" on the other and would listen to it on my walkman every day on the bus on the way to school.
^^ good times... got the chance to see quicksand once, turned out to be the 2nd most expensive show i've ever been to... after a run in with the law on the way home, that is... but it was worth every penny as for helmet, think i'll throw that on next & let those good times simmer a little...
