Does anyone have a photo of the new DR Mothman? I saw the ad too late to preorder thru Lulubell. It looks totally badass!
Futureman: Apparently there's a pink one too, which I didn't see a preorder go up for at Lulu. Photo from the DR blog:
So I thought this was produced by Akai Kutsu Club... but it seems like DR will be conducting sales on his own. Wonder if this is simply an 'inspired by' sculpt, based on the Akai Kutsu Moth-baby- sort of like Neo-Eyezon and Eyezon.
Leadster--thanks for the awesome photo! Now I am REALLY intrigued. A pink one?! Damn! Does anyone have a lead on that version??
That looks like a Drazoran body with a new head sculpt. I like this new head better than the Drazoran one.
Wellllll... the Bako head is boring, but Mibora is sweet Seriously though, this seems like a perfect idea. I am so utterly in love with the Drazoran sculpt that adding a wildly new head onto that same body makes me real happy. Granted, Drazes are a bit of shelf hogs with their tails on, but I just love messing around with them. Guys will talk about how fight figures are 'hand-sized' and just innately fit in there to fiddle with, but something about the chunkiness of the Draz body does the same thing for me.
Hey, nefasth, you won't get much argument from me. I'm an old school kaiju guy...I've been here for a little while and I've certainly dabbled in designer vinyl (and genuinely love some of it)...but the whole reuse of body parts still irks me. I mean, a billion and one repaints is one thing, but just a head swap to make a new character? I dunno. And it's not like the part-swapping is the point with these toys, like with Glyos figures. Or that a unified body style, like with Toygraph's Space Troopers. (And, sorry, this applies to Gargamel's Zag/Bako/Mib, Blobpus' LK/Dokugan/Docross, basically every fight figure......)
I thought that the part swapping started back with the rubber suits the guys wore in the shows. It was cheaper to come up with a new head on an old body than to make a whole new suit. It seems like part of the whole tradition of kaiju.
Head-swap = new toy goes back to Marusan/Bullmark times. Red King and Aboras used this trick, as did Pagos, Neronga and Gabora (I think). Always a good one in my book.
True, but like blakewest said, those are toys of pre-existing licensed character...that actually have the same bodies. It'd be pretty dumb not to use the same body for the toy! But crack open a copy of Sekai no Kaiju: Bakobas (Siberian Iron Beast) does not share the same body as Zagoran (Zagora). I realize sculpting a whole new body is time-consuming and expensive, but come on. MaxToyCo has a half dozen official colorways of each sculpt...Gargamel (and plenty others) have hundreds. So more power to Mark Nagata for coming up with new stuff at a quicker pace...
i am so psyched for this drazoran "brother" -- i even like the brown unpainted version, release that!
I find the headswap is a great homage to vintage Bullmark body re-use. The head is great, it reminds me a little bit of Badjira, mainly because of the Baragon ears. I'll be following closely this new release.
Radioactive lizard skin binding is notoriously fragile. Oh, do they? I actually have not watched a lot of the older shows. That's a good distinction.
mothman arribed. based on the original price i was thinking this was going to be Bemon size. then after a refund i figured he was smaller. he arrives in fight figure size! so cute! i keep wanting to play with his face by turning it and then it just falls off since its not really supposed to move. love the color, really shiny and slippery. great sculpt! curious that there are no markings on it whatsover. a true mystery.
