Catch up from first half of season 2...

    They went to a farm.
They hung around looking for someone.
There were some zombies in the barn.

Also a little girl got lost and people looked for her and looked for her and looked for her some more and one of them had some daddy issues and some other guy shaved his head and got mad and a little boy got sick and stuff.

I'm not watching this till tomorrow morning in the AM (stupid iTunes), so hopefully no one will post any spoilers. I really hope Shane does not die by the end of this season but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm with Rich. The 2nd half of the second season is looking up. This episode ended with an exclamation point.

    Way to go Rick!

I spent the last couple of months convinced that there was no way I was going to bother with the rest of the season, but I'll admit that the article tipped us to got me a little curious again.

Just finished with tonight's installment - nothing happened that made me yell at the screen, so there's an improvement right there... see you all here next week, I guess.

thanks Lixx, this was an interesting read. especially about the saloon scene being an homage to the bar scene in "Inglorious Bastards"

Just watched the episode this morning. I had a moment when they were going to bury the bodies saying to myself: "Please let's not drag out this grieving thing!" AND they didn't! So definitely looking up. The whole episode was great, especially the stand off in the bar. That threw me for a loop because I didn't think it would escalate that fast. Also I kept thinking the whole time, walkers are definitely hearing all this activity and in route to the farm.

SPOILER EDIT: And one more thing- that Beth girl (who's supposedly in shock) got bit. Fever? Heart is racing? When she went to see her dead mother and the corpse grabbed her, I re-watched that scene. There is one moment as the group is pulling her away where it looks like the corpse's mouth is right near her leg. Totally going to have a threat from within soon.

I still have to say Dale's character is a major disappointment from the book. Granted Shane was also dead by now, but his insistence on whining into any willing or unwilling ear about how "Shane is a killer and a bad man!" is getting so old. There is absolutely no way he could even have known Shane shot Otis. Shane has never even implied it as he always states.

Season 1 he was the cool older guy, now he's just a one dimensional whiny I FART A LOT who needs to die. Please let either a stray bullet enter his brain, a zombie lunges out of somewhere to rip his neck out, or better yet Shane frags him during a fire fight (and thus ironically Dale's prophecy comes true!).

MORE SPOILERS: As far as the other characters. Shane, Andrea, T-Dog, Daryl (Olive Olyl!) all seem to no what time of day it is and how not to be a victim. Hell even Carol stepped up and was like "No thanks" to her own kids mock funeral. Rick is growing a pair, Glen is losing his. I tell you though, if Dale & Maggie were in that car with Lori and it exploded spreading their pieces and parts out like a BBQ for zombies I would have been ecstatic. Obviously I'm going off and that would not happen but some of you must feel me on this right?

I hope Dean comments soon, I always love his insights :D

That's super-nice of you Lixx but I don't have much to say in addition to everyone else's comments except that I thought this was a damn good episode, and hopefully portends better writing and plot developments to come. I agree with your criticism of Dale but am holding out hope that his current state is leading to something interesting or catastrophic. For him at least. :) When I realized how excited I was in anticipation of the show's return, I realized that I'm enjoying it a lot more than I was willing to admit earlier. Plus the news about the personnel changes on the staff is cause for hope; the producers knew that the fans were increasingly at risk of turning on the show, and got decisive with an eye to improving it. Thumbs up for that.

    @Lixx

You are spot on about Dale w/ the whole "Shane is a killer" BS and with the prediction about Beth, I was thinking the same thing about her having been bit and then hiding it since she'd just watched all the lamebrains in the barn shot down. I hope they cut her leg off and she lives for a while all cantankerous... but I'm betting it'll be some new resolve of Hershall's to accept that walkers are totes dead already and he'll have to handle braining the little chick.

Also, does anyone else feel like this episode was obviously making up for lost time? Like, shiz is soooooo booooooring for sooooo looooong where everyone is just yakking about the same crap over and over and then now, all the sudden, GIRL DOWN - CAR CRASH - DALE'S INCITING AGAINST SHANE OPENLY - HERSHAL'S DRUNK AND STUFF - MEET NEW PEOPLE - KILL NEW PEOPLE pew pew pew pew pew!! Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. It's just that even with all that action, the pace still felt a little off... still slow somehow. Maybe they're still trying to figure out how to manage omniscient view over such a large cast when no clear factions have been formed yet.

Not that the show is bad, but I've read every comic in the series, and stopped watching the TV program after the third episode. I didn't think the changes they were making enhanced the Program at all. Do you guys think I'm wrong, has it gotten better?

Possible spoilers so don't read if you don't want to know:

I read a little online, so I hear the rumors that Jon Bernthal (Shane) is leaving at the end of the season and going to that new Darabont/TNT cop show LA Noire. So there are a lot of rumors circulating he'll be killed off the end of this season.

Seems like the whole fan base of the show is divided into two camps: You think Shane is right or you hate him. Personally I've been booted from Roamers and Lurkers forum for defending Shane's actions. I don't know, love him or hate him he's a interesting character to have on the show. I relate to him a little because it seems to me there would be a lot of dumb people left around after an apocalyptic event and they would probably try pushing their dumb ways of resolving things on you. He speaks to all the people that would not put up with the dumb crap. Yeah he's a hothead and I still don't get the whole 'in love' with Lori thing but I'd want him on my team. Dale? Dale can't even see a herd of zombies 5 feet in front of him.

Well it's a different medium altogether, episodic TV. Kirkman said he wanted to show to be a bit different from the comic because if you read all of them and then the show followed it exactly, you wouldn't be surprised at all. Also mentioned something about building on ideas he never fully explored when he wrote the comic. I read all of the comics too, and some of the changes I like, others not so much. But I look at the show as something almost completely new.

I agree Michael. The comic reads like it was made for the screen. If I hadn't read the comic at all, I would enjoy the show much more.

Possible spoiler about the universe of Walking Dead in the long answer.

    Short Answer:
First Carl killed him, then Rick did.

    Long Answer:
Carl shot him while he was threatening Rick due to jealousy over Lori. Then, a good few (and truly exceptional) issues later, Rick & crew learn that the zombification infects EVERYONE who dies and not just those who have been bitten. So he goes back to Shane's grave, digs the undead bastard up, shoots him in the head, and leaves him in the open to rot.

I loved last nights episode. Still found myself yelling at the screen when that poor kid on the fence, while zombies were everywhere. I would not have wasted time trying to pull him off. Writing is on the wall with Shane though. He lovesick obsession with Lori is what will be his downfall sadly. Lori's planted the seed in Rick's head to take him out which you know is coming by the end of the season (but not before we have some flare up's btw them in the next few episodes I'm sure).

Slightly off topic but sort of same subject matter:

So I watched that film "The Dead' online tonight:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1386925/

I found the film quite good despite what some people think. The directors/writers of 'Walking Dead' could learn a few things from this movie. I'm not really one for zombie gore or zombie deaths but more for suspense and the survivalist aspect of it. This film had everything you could think of though. I actually felt really bad for the main character. After his plane crashes no matter where he turns there are zombies everywhere. Every time I thought- ok he's in the middle of nowhere by a desert in Africa, there can't possibly be a zombie, he's going to some rest, or a moments reprieve.....slowly in the distance you'd see 2 or 3 appear! Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The zombies were super creepy also with blue eyes, and they moved like zombies should- very slow but very determined. I can't count the scenes where they slowly approach him as he's trying to start a car, looking for a weapon, shelter, anything. Hey and if you're into gore it has plenty of that. If WD isn't giving you your zombie fix (I needed more). I really recommend this.
