View this post on Instagram A friend showed me this guy and I had to have it. Girlfriend went to Disney and brought me back a set to fuckin cool.
Dude that is too funny! This past weekend I showed my girlfriend this same mug. It's the zombie from Trader Sam's and that's apparently the 4th or 5th edition glaze style. Pretty cool, if you ask me! Each new edition of the mugs that are released for Trader Sam's or the Polynesian Resort in Disney World have different glazes which is a great addition. This is one of the Polynesian Resort mugs that I picked up back in March during my week-long stay at the Poly. The glaze was too cool to pass up. Different from last year's too. Edit: Also for reference, here are a few of the past glazes on those shrunken head mugs! EDIT #2: Dug a little deeper and discovered that glaze you posted is for the 3rd edition? I can't count apparently. I also highly recommend looking up the Krakatoa mugs from there as well.
I am hooked man. Like I have been looking into them like crazy. I love kitsch pop art and we needed so color for the kitchen so this has become a thing for sure.
Yeah I kind of want one of these as well. I must admit to checking some out on ebay in btw commericals watching Fargo last night. So Trader Sam's doesn't have a direct online store? EDIT: I bought that second edition version on ebay. I like the lighter color/texture. The third version does look cool though. Apparently these are $19.50 (and it includes the drink in it) at Trader Sam's but I'm nowhere near a Disneyland and know no one near one or who works there so ebay price I pay. $40 ain't bad though for a great tiki mug you can't just get anywhere.
View this post on Instagram Got these in the mail today. So much awesome stuff out there I'm totally hooked!
Whoa!! That red is eye popping! I'm trying to put my finger on the artist but I can't quite figure it out.... swear I've seen it before! Also @Lixx welcome to the madness! Walt Disney world also has their own Trader Sams which was added maybe two-ish years ago after the success of their sister location in Anaheim.
Well thanks to the incredible haven of knowledge known as Ooga-Mooga, I've been able to determine what mugs you have there. The one on the left there is the "Nakalele Knockout" mug, the right is the "Lava Letch" both are from Frankie's Tiki Room located in Las Vegas. Very very nice grabs. That Letch is fantastic. @coma21 Also I knew the style used on the Letch was familiar. That was sculpted by BigToe.
I wasn't sure who did the design but that makes sense having seen big toes work it is for sure perfectly in his style
@coma21 in response to your status post: These photos just make me realize how weak my girlfriend and my collection is right now, which is crazy to think about since the two of us have been accumulating mugs slowly for about 10 years now. Gotta get more!
Thank you! You can't see it that well in the photo, but this is for sure one of our prized pieces. A Nautilus bowl from Trader Sam's.
We don't really use our collection too often. The bowl never. We've only used a handful of the mugs once or twice.
I got that Trader Sam's Shrunken Zombie head mug in: Fits nice on the desk next to my non-tiki (sorry guys) Lucky Koi Cup I got on Seattle trip: And damn you guys I'm already looking at other tiki mugs online!
Lixx! Such a nice score! It's super addicting man! I am having the same kind of fun learning about and collecting these that I did when I started collecting toys. And they have such similar tones it is really helping to add the same look to my kitchen that the rest of my house has lol
My girlfriend and I aren't really "party people", but we have made the odd maitai once or twice in the past few months thus utilizing a couple of the mugs. I've just never really touched them too much because I don't deem myself worthy enough to make a beverage that would go inside such magnificence. Not to mention most, if not all, hold some sort of memory with them so they're more collectible idols more than anything rather than drinking vessels. If you throw some sort of tiki shindig though, I will happily break out the mugs.
Also almost forgot... If anyone here resides in or close to Ft. Lauderdale.....you can't miss this. https://thehukilau.com/ It starts today and all through the weekend. A tiki party for tiki people! I've personally never been but have wanted to go.
I saw that! I was pretty hyped when I looked into it. Also if I throw a tiki party you are so invited!
Very cool to see the tiki mugs you guys have. I've always admired tiki mugs, but never collected them. I've just got this one that I got from our fellow SB'er Miles over at Munktiki:
