That's my issue with hyped toys period. I could care less if someone has love or not for the toy. Who am I to spit venom, if they like it, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I get mad at toys being used as status symbols, and the same clowns throwing insane cash out for them. Yes I realize some people have money to burn and who am I to criticize their spending habits, but if they would just learn not to spend or bid HIGH for fear of never getting it again then everything would be cheaper in the long run. I'm not talking 100 or 200 here either. I'm talking insane money being throw at this, anraku, bemon etc etc. It's all market control really. Wow so glad I don't collect those things.

Oh and this is no way commentary on COOP, he earned those fair and square.

But what's happeneing or has happened is people put out comments along the lines of "the only reason anyone likes these is because they are the 'hot' thing and are tools" and it get's pretty annoying so a nerdly internet fight breaks out.

Cmon, EVERYONE who likes these is only into them because of hype? Really? EVERYONE?! That's nuts. Clearly a large number yes, but ALL?! Whatever. Then people feel like they can't even post a simple "I think that looks awesome" without feeling like someone's gonna crash down on them and call them tools.

There are a lot of issues, and they have NOTHING to do with this toy. But they seemed to have exploded in this thread and clung onto this figure and thread and are running with it.

Wow, a ton of things to comment on here:

1. Chasing off artists; you cant compare Coop and Kozik - its like chalk and cheese. Kozik said a lot of the right things in his posts, sold peole a shit load of toys but acted like a douche (try waiting 3 years for a refund, or being called a F A G to your face) whereas Coop is a dream to deal with and one of the nicest guys you could meet. I can hardly believe he's a Satanist!?!

2. Being slammed for not towing the line; There are comments earlier in the thraed suggesting that people who criticize Nags are getting jumped on. But right now it feels like if you are pro-nag you are being instantly branded as a bandwagon jumper, or just wanting one for hype and flippability. Those reasons ebb and flow with pretty much any toy line we collect on here - BUT there are plenty of people who likes Nags because of what they are and how well they are executed. Anyone who has seen one in person will realize each one is a work of art - even if they are too cool to say. Shigeru paints like a mofo - no question.

3. Andy Vs Coop; sad to see this going on. Andy is definitely a strong long-time contributor to the scene and a great friend. Coop is new to Skullbrain, but also a stand-up guy. If you guys hung out together I can't imagine you not getting on. All this internet separation and behind keyboard shit has a lot to answer for!

4. New thread; yes please. This one can be used for controversy, and a new one started for a database of Nag pics. I'm losing track and there are way too many pages to page through in order to find pics here.

5. And finally - what it really should be all about - the toys. I cant tell someone to like these, but I can try and explain why I like them and maybe my enthusiasm will be contagious? I always find it hard to put into words why I like what I like - but in this case it is an easier task as I am so drawn to these guys for multiple reasons:
Paint apps; each one I have seen is superbly painted
Sculpt; Primitive for sure with a huge creepy/ugly vibe and yet a hint of cuteness; for me, a perfect balance.
Personas; each one seems to be injected with an individual personaility
Substance; they stand-out impressively when I look at them amongst the rest of my collection
Texture; like strange foreign terrain - they lend themselves to creative paint apps
Hair; Damn but the hair works on these guys, maybe because its so carefully applied...bald spots and all
Pubes; first toy with pubes - totally tickles teh absurdist in me. Shigeru obviously doesnt take himself too seriously
Prolaspsed butthole; 'nuff said

Hey - just wanted to clear the air - I just received a PM telling me that both Nesfath and others perceived my comment above (its earlier in this thread) as laughing at him for being referred to as a "twat". I thnk I've cleared it up with him, but for all of you who apparently thought that - I should point out that wasnt the intention at all. I am a Brit living in teh US. I havent heard that word used in years and it seemed such a quaint and anachronistic insult it made me chuckle like mad. I guess I have a sometimes juvenile and always Brit-centric sense of humour (see teh Brit spelling there) - but it shouldnt be taken as an insult to anyone in the thread. If anything I'm a twat for finding the word so amusing. I'll blame it on being homesick after having such a great time in the UK - and getting to hang out with awesome boardies Andy, Jeb, Donnie, Backtrack and Samba - all of who are "lovely blokes".
